I tried getting into Arca's album but I was already giving up after Track #5 Maybe, I should try Xen first.

I took a long time to listen to Traveler. I kind of was reluctant to listen I guess. Glad I did and stopped being stubborn. It's one of the best country debuts in some time.

Xmas & Chill really impressed me. Agreed completely on Arca.

I actually liked Mutant a lot more than I thought I would considering the lack of lyrics and I usually hate songs without lyrics because like... why? but he somehow managed to make the songs interesting enough to compensate

I feel the same way about lyrics. I usually listen to those types of albums in the background while I'm doing other things, so I can get used to the music tbh. Or while I'm stuck in traffic. Either or.

I guess you could always make up your own lyrics and sing them along.




Glad you liked Arca though and it wasn't a long music video type situation.

102-98: Classic Man is a much better Fancy than Fancy could even be. Classic Man is one of my favorite jams to have fun with and be a goof. Got that Classic Swag. I also enjoy the Kendrick Lamar remix. Listen to it if you haven’t yet. Dat the Game on Halloween? Damn. So clean and fresh.

97-93: Lemme listen to this The Weeknd/Ed song. Not bad. Loved the dark vibe I get from this one. Brings me back to the mysterious and dark days of the Weeknd. I discover Don’t on Beats 1 radio. Really liking this style of music. Get deep in the nighttime. Man, Wesley’s Theory is one of my top fav tracks from the album. The song just feels good and right. The funkiness of that track got me going. Agree what you said on the write-up.

92-82: I only Uptown Funk and what a song that is. Love to get down on that one. It’s one of my top favorite songs of the year.

81-76: I know a lot more songs here. This diugh….ain’t free! Yeah, that interlude tells so much in such a short time. I was on late listening to Hotline Bling despite the hit that it is. Still, an enjoyable song that I don’t mind answering the phone to. David Bowie still kicking it to this day. Man,that song takes me in a wonderful and out of this world journey. It may not Missy’s best (far from it), but it’s still a fun song to get down low and crank it up. This is how we do from where we from.
75-71: God, Worth It is such an annoyance. Being a Talk Dirty knock-off does not help, but my family loves this song esp. my mother who can’t singing this one. My ears are not worth it. Meh on Heartbeat Song.

70-66: More Drizzyness! Now & Forever is really good. Such a great Drake stan you are.

65-61: Hey, I like how Tame Impala does its Beatles referencing psychedelia-accented pop and Pink Floyd influences. The Less I Know The Better is a nice song to get lost into and forget that you know a lot more than you should. I don’t mind the new mainstream Pop Abel and I really enjoy it. This song is no exception. I’m so addicted to it and yeah, he does MJ justice. Honeymoon started out too slow and boring, but it got me good as the song progress.

60-56: Just noticed that you got the wrong set banner (still says 65-61). In fact, you made some small mistakes in the recap post of the first page, but whatever. Lemme me listen to this Game/K-Dot song since I slept on the Game and more King Kunta! Plus, I don’t like any songs except that lame ass Carly Rae Jepson song. Alright, this song on fire and go hard and laid-back at the same time mostly laid-back tho. The Westside! That’s on me. Rise Up!

55-52: I just realized the X-mas smiles! Nice they are. I wonder how long we will have them for. Want to Want Me is good.

51-47: Damn at your rock rant at 51. I’ve seen that song on YTT before. I listen to it another time. Everyday is my jam. Everyone needs a Smoke Break well except for me. It is esp. not good for me, but I can take a drink break.

46-42: Finally, latest set. Bang That American Oxygen. Can’t resist the puns you know. I heard Focus on the radio and I hate it. Ehh, pop radio lately kinda sucks. There's less good there. Kick the Dust Up! Fun and silly song. Country Party ain’t a bad thing ‘less it’s too much and it’s too Bro Country.

That took a lot of time than I wanted. Guess I love to take my time and get distract to listen to some of the music I haven’t heard yet. Great Bitch Ass Best of so far. I really enjoyed it. You have impressive write-ups. Can’t wait for you to bring more updates.

Ari's EP was amazing! I was really impressed. Especially since I didn't love My Everything. The EP was cohesive and had that R&B flavor I like. Plus it's like 20 minutes long and breezes by. I'd say the songs won't sound too out of place after christmas, especially if you're lazy and still have gifts lying around like me

The Internet album was great! I slept on it a little too. I was so bad about listening to new things this year

41: Nothing But Thieves - Emergency


Nothing But Thieves are a funny group. They'll record a song called Excuse Me, and make that song hit hard enough to punch you in the face. Then, they'll turn around and record the gloomy, anguished, Emergency, a song about dying a slow death, realizing you're miserable, and becoming more miserable as life ticks on by. You can only sleepily call for help, but it's a futile call for help.

40: Big Sean - Paradise


There's a moment before a thunderstorm where the air is filled with electricity, you can just feel all the energy and tension in the atmosphere before lightning finally hits. Paradise begins with the crack of thunder, a storm rolling in. Big Sean commands the Mike WiLL Made It beat, he has a couple of his usual clunkers, but they're easy to overlook as you're struck by the track.

39: Tinashe (feat. Iamsu!) - Worth It


The standout of Tinashe's Amethyst mixtape. She apparently wasn't satisfied with releasing one of the best debuts in recent times and one of the best albums of the last year. She decided to drop her best work yet this year, for free. Worth It, the best song on this countdown by that name, stands out over the more comparatively rote and lackluster tracks like Something to Feel because of it's sonic adventurousness. Worth It paints a lush sonic soundscape out of percussive water drops, verdant synths, and, it all sounds natural, completely delivering on the aqueous aesthetic Tinashe has been pursuing. All that is nice, but the song still bounces, and apparently also suggests lyrically that while Tinashe is more talented than most, she is willing to see the right people that might help her career out. Anyway, the song is beautiful, while still completely working as a song, and that luxurious sax outro is everything.Worth It
definitely is the best song by that name here, and has the best sax outro also.

38: Taylor Swift (feat. Kendrick Lamar) - Bad Blood

Bad Blood was always one of my favorites off of 1989. It just got simplicity right. It told the story it needed to without being over complicated, the high concept plot of: former friend does Taylor wrong, and Taylor is upset about this. Apparently there is some controversy over who that friend was, but I always thought it was like when you write an essay for a class, and then go back and add sources to make it look you you've been doing research all along.

Anyway, the actual song was always been great. It has those catchy drums, that sing-along chorus. It's a good time. The remix, kept everything about the original, polished it, into a sleek pop blockbuster of a song. It wasn't just a remix for a release as a single, it was an event. The song was glossed over, given a movie poster as a single cover, the hottest rapper in the game was chosen to work on the song as a trusty sidekick and provide obnoxious ad libs, it became an entertaining Hollywood Blockbuster complete with a music video that felt more expensive and big budget than most full length movies. And the song, still as sleek and polished as ever, remains replayable as ever. .

37: Rae Sremmurd (feat. Nicki Minaj & Young Thug) - Throw Sum Mo

Discussions over quality are annoying. [Tinashe]What is quality? Is it high brow observations on life made by classically trained vegan harpists? Is it something that fully realizes the creative vision of its artist? Is it something that people can connect with and relate to and find some meaning in? Is it just something enjoyable?[/tinashe] Who really cares though? In the words of another Ear Drummers song, "I ain't got no type"

For what it's worth, I'd say the fourth option for Rae. They are only concerned with pleasing the people, and Throw Sum Mo definitely does that. The beat is minimal and bounces, but not enough to become over bearing. Nicki Minaj, usually known for her maximalism, is instead used more as an instrument, delivering one line. But her line, is probably the best and most effective of the year, and Young Thug, well, he's there to switch things up and keep it interesting while not being particularly memorable. Throw Sum Mo is all about the good times and it's quality. :
