Light lyric voices do have low notes below the average soprano tessitura though (Mariah and Ellie Goulding are good examples of light lyric soprano's with a lower extensions), they just can't carry any weight down there like heavier voices can. Even with the drug use she's still barely audible at F3 which is the lower end of the soprano passaggio, most mezzo's are well supported down to D3.
Rihanna is also incapable of belting a F4 like other mezzo's, her belting starts at around G#4 which is oddly just around a soprano's transition from chest to head voice. Her voice is indeed odd, it's a shame she's destroying it and slowly stripping it of its qualities.
You mentioned Ellie so I'm gonna continue on that, her lower extension is very impressive. She gets down to D3 without issue and has harmonized some lovely supported A2s. Her agility is also very impressive, listen to My Blood (iTunes Session) where she does an incredibly quick downward scale with pearl like clarity (though the vocals sound processed a little bit) and on Instagram she's been posting videos of her nailing Beyoncé riffs (who's a coloratura). I just wish she'd get a vocal coach, because her belting register is so coarse and thin
Thank you!! I've never never did an upwards run in that way before, starting slow and then gaining steam the higher i went..the downward descents came from me being excited about the first run and I sort of had a moment loll..I was practicing that scale forever!!
If you had to name the best Non-Classical/Opera Vocalist of all time, who would it be?
Mariah Carey. Fight me.

Regardless, she's 27 and too old to recover from her abuse not to mention her voice will deepen further with age naturally as all women do. I'm going from Rihanna Loud era on any previous recordings will be are useless as her voice is vastly different them then, Rihanna is an Mezzo and she has been a Mezzo since at least Loud and will continue to be one for the rest of her life. This girl reminds of Rihanna in a sense
Also I wouldn't call Rihanna talented, she's below mediocre technically but I guess a decent tonal singer as her tone which is quite pleasant and unique
Miley's also a Mezzo who I guess you could identify with Rihanna, just listen to her recent duet with Miley and you can hear that oddly good support in her lower register
But I'm saying, Ravindra posted a song from the HOME soundtrack in which her voice displays light soprano qualities. I totally agree that her voice is bound to drop in the next 5 years, but it's not there yet at all. Whatever you would call B'Day-era Beyoncé is what you'd call present-day Rihanna imo.

She's still capable of singing in the soprano tessitura in a studio setting and her timbre is still far too bright for a mezzo even with the 23948723047 cigarettes she smokes on a daily basis, although her voice does sound darker in comparison to her debut.

Her tessitura isn't bright though, the video from Home isn't proof as her head register reminds me of Beyonce there

Ellie and Mariah both have nodules, RIhanna does not hence why she keeps smoking to maintain her "husky" sound. Her upper extension, head register and lower register all show signs of the mezzo darkness and it's ease and struggles. Even if she was a SOprano she should mix by F#4, that's once everyone should be starting to mix Soprano's included.

Beyonce's been a certified mezzo her ENTIRE CAREER!
Nope. Beyoncé *was* a soprano her entire career. Destiny's Child days. DIL-era. B'Day-era. Obvious light-lyric soprano. She didn't transition to mezzo until 2007/2008, right before IASF.
NOT a mezzo at all:
CERTAINLY a mezzo:
Now, good examples of women who have actually been mezzos since their teen years are Brandy and Monica.
Somewhat dark, smoky, slightly raspy tones with a light husk to them. Weirdly mature-sounding.
16/17 year-old Beyoncé was just not that.
Featherweight, bright as day, and super girly. That did not change until after B'Day. Mezzo-yoncé's first appearance was in Cadillac Records.
