"Oh" served as the third single from her debut album, was well received by critics, performed everywhere on countless award shows, earned a couple of awards and had great commercial success both internationally and in the states, becoming her third consecutive top three hit.
It's a down-tempo Crunk&B song with hard hip-hop features and heavy baseline. Ci took us on a tour of her hometown straight from a block party parking lot and I felt like I was right there in the Atlanta City. To top it all off she was joined by ATL native, rapper Ludacris - this was where the magic started with this duo. "Oh" just goes hard, Ciara does no wrong when it comes to making a summer anthem. Sometimes "Oh" is overlooked, so it's great to see this banger receive some recognition here. Will it be coming for that title like a dark horse?
Ciara – "Promise" (2006) Peaked: #11 | wks: 20
Lowest – (6): collin
Promise" is without a doubt one of Ciara's most beloved by fans of all kind and most acclaimed track to date. One could even argue that it's among one of the best R&B songs of 2006 let alone the last decade. To shut the naysayers down, "Promise" did well enough to peak #11 on the BB Hot 100 (the most annoying peak since "Oh" and "1,2 Step" were robbed for those No. 1) and reached #1 on the Hip-Hop/R&B charts.
At the time this sound, this music video and this new image was very new to her audience and this single was unlike any other Ciara single released. She transitioned into her sophomore era flawlessly with this sultry mid-tempo ballad. Everything about the record is great from the falsetto, the bass in the beaat, the breezy bridge and hook, those iconic vocoder effects and even her spoken words. Easily one of her best singles, but did we claim it the winner of this rate?
Ciara – "Overdose" (2013) Peaked: -- | wks: --
Lowest – (6): Nait Phoenix, MellowYellow
Who in their right minds could think of anything negative to say about "Overdose"? Well, besides the fact that we might have over-rated it and yeah, maybe it over-stayed its welcome. But I guess the latest single boost was expected, maybe we can rightfully rate it in the upcoming discography rate.
"Overdose" is just a little taste of what Ciara could potentially bring if she were to branch into a more top 40. It's such a shame this highly anticipated single didn't see the light of day all thanks to Future's penis... I mean, isn't the song about his **** or nah? The single cover erased all the cutesy thoughts I had about this song. If the track was sung by someone else it would be deemed generic, but there's just something about her voice on this simple electro-pop ode that sounds so automatic, supersonic, hypnotic-funky FRESH. The song is massively catchy and the :30 sec sample alone was enough to win pop lovers over. But will that be enough to win this rate?
