I haven't read the recent comments and last few pages, just commenting this on a whim:
I know they're despised by so many people inside their own country, but the resurgence of conservative, sometimes arguably fundamentalist Christians within political institutions in recent years (for instance Tea Party, obviously) is not helping the US' reputation. It can be kind of worrying, and I hope movements like this won't be allowed to attain real positions of power and take over. As far as I have read and heard about it, Mitt Romney already was a Trojan Horse that was steered in that general direction.

Not this turning into a "Richest country" thread.
If I lived in Quatar, I'd be scared ****less hearing that a major country wanted to invade us. At least when North Korea said they wanted to nuke California, I got a good laugh.

Unlike most liberals on this site, I ,as a complete center as far as politics is concerned, will tell you that what you read is mostly false. The media loves to perpetuate the Tea Party as a fundamentalist group of crazed Christians wanting to set the nation back 50 years, when that is not the case at all. The Tea Party along with other religious conservatives do not have a "political agenda" against the good hopes of the US. The reason why you read this things is because the mostly liberal media only paints one side of the story. While yes, there a factions of the Tea Party who are extremists, I doubt you have ever read anything negatively portraying extremely progressives. This is the main problem with the United States as a whole. The people wanting to be in charge of the government on both sides are very selfish and only want to benefit themselves instead of the country as a whole. George Washington in his farewell address warned the American people of the harm politics can cause to the nation and he was %100 right.

I appreciate your response. I absolutely realize that the media is biased in both directions, depending on what channel etc. exactly it is you're subjecting yourself to.
But I have read and heard too many ridiculous things about some right-wing Republicans. If you let in people like Michelle Bachmann (and recently I'd also have to say Ted Cruz) and actually push them and give them support, then something's not right with the whole entire party, or large parts of it at least.

Honey everything your saying is incorrect. The USA put a Monarchy in Iran after they replaced a democratically elected leader. Most nations got rid of they're Monarchies cause of there own doing it really has nothing to do with us. We are hated because of people like you. Your arrogance and ignorance makes us look dumb. Damn I can't wait to get out of this country and away from you people.

I think you can say it's true that the American indepedence and democracy started in 1776 was a big inspiration to the French Revolution of 1814, which then led to civilian unrest and protest of the educated middle and upper class bourgeoisie across Europe.
There had been a constitutional monarchy in the UK for centuries before, but because it was still a monarchy per se where the power ultimately was in the king's/queen's hands, that never inspired imitators in other countries. The actual democracy in the US on the other hand arguably was the first pebble to finally set in motions a chain of events in ol' Europe and permanently plant republican ideas in people's heads. It only took a while (and the instability caused by World War 1...) to overcome the old structures of power after that.

Unfortunately, I cannot. You have already showed enough ignorance and stupidity in your recent post that even the brightest place under the sun wouldn't be enough to enlighten you.

I don't think the UK changed size and then decided to shrink though. The empire might have reduced but ey I'm judging you.
But the fact that USA (probably the largest country when it comes to habitable land mass) which is almost the size of Europe is being compared to the UK is scary. Of course America will have the highest GDP but what the suck is that GDP but being used on? Getting guns for everyone to shoot people just because they don't believe in their American Dream.
I mean when it comes to quality of life, the USA won't even come close to some of the other countries, Luxembourg, Liechtenstein and Austria, even the Nordic trinity, Norway Sweden or Denmark
Hell even the commonwealth trinity Australia, Canada and the UK

Austrians represent!!!
Our capital Vienna was crowned the city with the highest quality of life in the world in 2012, and I can honestly say it's quite nice here. I could have done worse.

Seriously, stop pretending that you know what the quality of life is here if you haven't lived her. Our quality of life is perfectly fine.
