Not necessarily. I really get the impression that Gaga is the kind of artist that enjoys trying to top some of the people she is influenced by, you know sort of an ego type of deal where she wants to prove she can make a Bionic type of album a commercial success. In all seriousness, despite Bionic's underwhelming sales, it actually is somewhat of an iconic album. It was one of the years most illegally downloaded. And Madonna ended up working with M.I.A. and Nicki Minaj and throwing in some Bionic references. Plus the album being a catalyst for Sia's mainstream popularity.

We're still talking about it 3 years later, with two albums out in between and it's sold over 800k worldwide with very little promotion after a 4 year hiatus. There was 0 promo worldwide, only a few appearances in the US. People don't think for themselves, they're just repeating what they've heard or have absolutely no business sense. I wouldn't bother try to reason with them, they'll just repeat "floptina!!!!1111" when someone gives them a seconds worth of attention again.

I wouldn't say Gaga is copying Christina's Bionic cover; the artwork on Bionic is actually a depiction of steampunk, as in steam-powered horns, turn tables, speakers with a maze of gauges etc. whereas Gaga's promotional imagery is exposed circuitry.
Still there's something derivative about Gaga's overall presentation, however. It really comes off as her take on a Bionic type of album.

I like you, you think for yourself. I didn't even think of Bionic the first time I saw the image. I think people are just glancing at the round glasses shape and technology theme and running with it.
Can't really blame the Christina fans for trying it though - Gaga fans still harping on NMT being a copy of Bad Romance when almost every single scene is a direct rip from Human Nature and Express Yourself. Seriously - from the outfit/monocle on the stairs, from the bondage, from the girl on girl, from the cat suit and lapping up "milk" from the rain dance, and the sexy boy times scene. They'd rather be hurtful than explore these things themselves. You have to be absolutely oblivious to believe that BR is a copy of NMT, and if you DO, then you have never seen HM or EY OR agree that Gaga ripped off Madonna. Christina even pours oil (milk in Madonna's video) over the shoulder with the camera positioned in the exact same way and wears the same outfits, it couldn't be more obvious. They literally have been ranting and raving about the two videos
sharing a white background since 2010.... the sunglasses were legitimately a copy, but technically that's product placement and Carerra was the highest bidder. So, it's not like they didn't have this coming.
I have zero sympathy for the Gaga fans right now. They will circlejerk all the frustration out with "cunning" one liners and sheer numbers. It's just a shame that they've been patiently waiting for album news and now they have to deal with copy-cat rumors. I want to say "let them have their moment" but at the same time, but would they do the same for others? Probably not.
