The Archetype of Psychology
The Self
"The Self Archetype"
The self is an archetype that represents the unification of the unconsciousness and consciousness of an individual. The creation of the self occurs through a process known as individuation, in which the various aspects of personality are integrated. Jung often represented the self as a circle, square or mandala.
The Shadow
"The shadow archetype"
The shadow is an archetype that consists of the sex and life instincts. The shadow exists as part of the unconscious mind and is composed of repressed ideas, weaknesses, desires, instincts and shortcomings. This archetype is often described as the darker side of the psyche, representing wildness, chaos and the unknown. These latent dispositions are present in all of us, Jung believed, although people sometimes deny this element of their own psyche and instead project it onto others.
Jung suggested that the shadow can appear in dreams or visions and may take a variety of forms. It might appear as a snake, a monster, a demon, a dragon or some other dark, wild or exotic figure.
The Anima or Animus
"The anima animus archetype"
The anima is a feminine image in the male psyche and the animus is a male image in the female psyche. The anima/animus represents the "true self" rather than the image we present to others and serves as the primary source of communication with the collective unconscious.
The combination of the anima and animus is known as the syzygy, or the divine couple. The syzygy represents completion, unification and wholeness.
The Persona
""The persona archetype
The persona is how we present ourselves to the world. The word "persona" is derived from a Latin word that literally means "mask." It is not a literal mask, however. The persona represents all of the different social masks that we where among different groups and situations. It acts as a mask to shield the ego from negative images. According to Jung, the persona may appear in dreams and take a number of different forms.
Other Archetypes
Jung suggested that the number of existing archetypes is not static or fixed. Instead, there are a number of different archetypes that my overlap or combine at any given time. The following are just some of the various archetypes that Jung described:
The father: Authority figure; stern; powerful.
The mother: Nurturing; comforting.
The child: Longing for innocence; rebirth; salvation.
The wise old man: Guidance; knowledge; wisdom.
The hero: Champion; defender; rescuer.
The maiden: Innocence; desire; purity.
The trickster: Deceiver; liar; trouble-maker.
The main archetypes are bolded

This is it. Criticise her if you wish, but at least she tries to bring something different to the table. Adele impresses with a wonderful vocal. Beyonce impresses with outstanding vocals and dancing. Britney impresses with great dancing. Gaga could impress us all by sitting at a piano and singing, which she regularly does. But at least for big, world-stage performances, she does attempt to make it a bit more interesting. That's what I love about her.
I know Adele is going to sing great.
I know Beyonce will dance and sing.
I know Britney will dance brilliantly, if she performs.
What I don't know, however, is what the heck Gaga is going to do, and that's what makes her so exciting!

Yeah, but they have hyped only Gaga's performance. No-one elses. Advertising a huge Beyonce performance or an amazing Adele vocal would draw ratings. But Gaga has been their focus. This interests me

If you read the philosophy you realize this is what Gaga lives by, she could just bear her heart out on the stage and give a powerful vocal performance on a piano, you don't know.

GaGa is more of a media figure than Adele, and while Beyonce has the star power, GaGa's name seems to draw more attention these days.

well said. she is always keeping people guessing and thats what i like. i think sometimes people forget that she actually considers herself a performance artist, obviously she is gonna do some controversial things and challenge intellectual thinking. she just doesnt do what she does for the sake of being controversial and a lot of people dont understand that.

Gaga herself said that MTV didn't ask her to open for them until after they saw what she was gonna do, so.

I know, my point was they have only being focusing on one performance, when we know that Adele's performances are always amazing, as are Beyonce's.

I don't get when people say things like this.
What does American consumerism have to do with her song Telephone? What does a Russian prostitution ring have to do with her song Bad Romance? What does a vampire, Nazi, dictator Queen have to do with her song Alejandro? When does Gaga do anything that makes sense? Gaga packages her songs with performances and videos that are complete, polar opposites. It's like a two in one deal. You get a song and a performance that are two totally different things. It keeps things fun.
Not saying you, but some people act like this whole "doing something different" is a completely new concept when she's been doing it from the very beginning.

I'm not going to allow myself to get excited due to the most tremendous hype over a performance in the history of television.

I'm here to say that the Russian prostituion ring has everything to do with Bad Romance, which is why that song and its video are so brilliant.
