In the last episode, Miranda says "the recruit you fell in love with or the terrorist that rejected you" to Liam and I was thinking she might have been referring to Alex's mother. Also, during the fight with the father, he talked about her secret.
Interview with Anna Khaja (Alex's mother):

“Alex is on the run and the FBI is gonna have to use a bunch of different tactics to try and find her and to get her to reveal where she is,” Khaja explained. “Her mother becomes a key player in those tactics, and you will definitely learn more about Sita and her past, and possibly her past involvement with other characters on the show in episode 3.”
Khaja couldn’t spoil all of Sita’s secrets, but that’s because she doesn’t know everything. The reveals in episode 3 are only the beginning of what Sita is hiding. “When I was shooting, the director, everybody would keep saying ‘You know, there’s a lot of secrets, a lot of mysteries surrounding your character,’ and honestly, I’d like to tell you more, but I’m not even sure what it is,” the actress teased.
