As much as I love her, sadly no.

People never really give the time of day unless she has that 1st single hit. I mean, "Mr. Know It All" is doing well considering the change of sound from her previous 1st singles, yet it's not doing spectacularly and people have already forgotten about the album -- other than the KellBell's of course. In my mind, however, she's iconic.

The thing is she won't always be a pop girl. She'll find her niche in country music and will have a name remembered for a long time to come.

But, even as a pop girl, she's made a presence. All of her albums have debuted in the top 3 of the Billboard 200, the first four having gone platinum (Thankful 2x, Breakaway 6x). The latest, Stronger, will shock me if it doesn't go platinum, but only time will tell with that one.

If she wanted to be "iconic" she easily could be. Her vocal talent only sees competition from a few pop girls (Beyonce, P!nk, etc.) .She could lose a bunch of weight and bolster her sales by using sex like most of the other pop girls, but that's not what she wants. She wants people to enjoy her music just because they think it's good and no reason else.

I say she isn't iconic just yet, but when it's all said and done, I'll bet that she's around long after Rihanna, Adele, Katy Perry, etc., all have faded. Her voice and non-attention-seeking persona will be strongly embraced by (country) music listeners for many years to come.

No, Kelly Clarkson is not iconic. While she's definitely made a massively successful career from American Idol, she's made no real impact culturally, socially, fashion wise nor has she had any significant impact on the music industry.

No. But she deserves to be.
She has one of my favorite voices of all time. Because, yes, while a lot of amazing singers are great, some of them get tiring or indulgent after a while. Kelly's is just that type of voice that I can listen to all day without wanting it to stop. Even her high notes just sound lovely in my ear. Very few artists have such a beautiful resonance like hers.
That's just my opinion.
I think the reason she's so underrated is because her songwriters could be better. Especially as of late. Breakaway was incredible and My December had some of the most amazing songs she's ever recorded (Never Again and Sober are probably my two favorite songs of hers). But I wasn't too impressed with the last two records. She's so much better than that.
