Welp Navy I don't know what you were expecting me to do the deadline wasn't even over.
I'm missing three entries. One is from jpow who asked for an hour extension so I'm assuming he's on top of things. I don't know where Satan and Kyle. are.
A lonely soul sits..
The rain is so powerful against the glass
It's cold to the touch..
For these moments.. You wish you had someone.. just to comfort you.
but you don't have love.. but you relate because you had a strong love before..
The beat of this song flows so well with sounds of rain hitting the window.
It's bliss and it's soothing..
It takes your mind off things..
Your playlist tricks you.. It's on your mind again..
That love..
It makes you realize...
Only fools fall
you're a fool..

A Busy City
Time To Pretend
MGMT
Time To Pretend is an amazing opening to my trinity of 'A Busy City' because it really represents the city life and explains the ups an downs of living in a busy city. There's so much to do in a busy city but it always seems to feel like we have no time to do any of the things that come our way. MGMT perfectly explains how we grow up wanting to be adults to live our lives and go off on our own wings to do all these things we aspired to become, yet when we become an adult we realize that it's more of a dream to achieve these things than reality. The song also illustrates how life in the big city is less of partying and the life of the rich and famous but rather going to work and just being another soul in a giant city.
Tunnel Vision
Justin Timberlake
JT really creates an atmospheric yet claustrophobic song at the same time, which really is what a busy city is. Such a large area but still feels like there is no space at any time. Timberlake illustrates a club scene where there's a million people in a room yet the woman he loves is the only one he really notices, and I think it should be noted that's really what is all about a busy city as well. We always set our goals on one thing, yet there's so much activity, culture and interactions happening around us.
The Night Is Still Young
Nicki Minaj
This song is very interesting because from first listen it may come off as a generic party song but I think there are some very serious and depressing undertones in it. Minaj preaches throughout the song to make the most of your life with no limits as our youth is still intact and to do it until it is gone. This song makes a gorgeous illustration of a night out in a busy city. The songs production ranges from high-tempo to low-tempo back and forth and includes themes of hip-hop, pop and even easy listening. A bipolar song full of different cultures, feelings and emotions much like a busy city would have. I think the most influential part of this song is how it ranges in the first two verses to be about the party atmosphere and living it up, while in the bridge it takes a different turn as Minaj and the party-goers realize they don't have much time or youth left to enjoy this beautiful city so they may as well make the most of the night while they can before they grow older and is instead a slave to the city and "watch the world pass us by" than be the ones roaming the city.

▲ The "Scene" Trinity ▲
In this trinity, I create a story about a scene where someone walked across a dark alley and his struggles before reaching the exit of it.

Nothing
I've got nothing but the same old memories that we made
And there's nothing I can do
To keep my hold on you
We started off great. We used to have smiles on our faces. We just love each other. No matter how far we'd go, we'll still be us. But as time passed by, you were gone along with those happy moments we used to have. All those promises that shouldn't be broken were actually broken. You have left me with nothing but tears in my eyes. Now, I'm seeing lights around me. But as I enter this dark alley, feeling of sadness will wrap unto me. I feel lost. I feel nothing but myself. There's no more us. There's nothing I can see but darkness. You left me empty, just totally Nothing.

Bedshaped
Don't laugh at me
Don't look away
(continuation)......
Now I feel the darkness surrounding me. It's like me on the cage full of sorrow. I don't know what to do anymore. I feel like I was trapped in the middle of unending path trying to let go and forget about the past but I just can't. It seems to be an important but hurtful memory of the past. I just can't let it go. I'm here walking alone in the dark alley, still hoping that things could go better that the times we spend happy together will be back again. I feel uncontrolled of myself. I can't handle my emotions. I started to cry while feeling Bedshaped for the longest time.

Hometown
Where we're from, there's no sun,
Our hometown's in the dark,
Where we're from, we're no one,
Our hometown's in the dark,
(continuation)...........
I started to walk faster, trying to reach the end of the dark alley. My knees refused to move as I try to get lost in this dark place. I feel like I was stuck and can't make another move. How is that? I'm nearing the exit. It only needs one more step to get out of this dark alley. Isn't it a dumb thing to happen in which you're almost free to go but somehow you lost control and didn't make it. At this point, I need help. I need help from someone that really cares about me. I'm screaming for help, hoping someone will hear. I keep yelling until I found out I was the only one there, alone. I started to cry and the pains of yesterday just popped out again out of my head. I just said to myself "I'm f**ked up". That's what I feel. At least I tried. I think that's how life works. You almost got it but somehow you f**ked it up. Suddenly a helping hand appears right in front me. It's trying to reach me. I grabbed it and it lead me outside that dark alley. I blinked my eyes fast and noticed the disappearance of the mysterious one. I may not see that one again but what I know is that there's still someone out there with a good heart. Thanks to him and i'll no longer treat that alley as my Hometown. I made it!.
“And all I need is to be struck
By your electric love,
Baby, your electric love”
Just like the lyrics say, this song is "sweet like candy." When I listen to it, I can envision someone whisking through a beautiful garden thinking of their lover.. or them doing something a bit more than thinking.. together.. in the garden *cheesy wink*
This track has a double meaning to me; When in a dark space mentally, altering your physical environment can ultimately lift your mood and change your perspective.. especially when it's something as calming as a tranquil garden.
Another interpretation of the lyrical content of this song is that in a relationship, hiding within denial about an issue only hurts both parties in the relationship in the end. It best to maturely accept the situation and move on.. whether that means moving on as in, seeing other people or moving on from the pressing issue and continuing the relationship.
“It was a filthy pane of glass,
I couldn't get a clear view ...
So I had to break the window,
It just had to be
Better that I break the window
Than him or her or me”
“Fall in love with me
Cross the golden sand
There's a road winding up into sun rays”
Sonically, this opulent track exudes tranquility and calmness similar to the aura of a garden.
Lyrically, Janelle conveys someone pouring their heart out, attempting to seduce a person to fall in love with them, leave all their preconceived notions behind and give all their attention to them.

A SNOWY DAY IN THE SUBURBS
WHERE
Everytime I heard this instrumental, it takes me to the northest part of this earth. Imagining living in a place where the white snow flakes surrounds it. I take a seat near by the fireplace while enjoying a cup of hot chocolate; feeling calm, peaceful and warm.
WHEN
The combination of the snowy picture and this song takes me to a certain time that is Christmas. I'm picturing myself living in a snowy suburb, missing someone, and feeling lonesome at Christmas time. I sit staring outside the window, watching the snow flakes fall while listening to this song.
WHO
By seeing the image of snowy day in suburbs, for some reason, it reminds of this particular figure: Snow queen. She is a fairy tale figure who is portrayed as harsh and cruel, like the winter in northern countries where nothing grows since they died of cold.

Hey! Here's my entry for round 2.
Giriboy // 사망 [Death]
To start off my trinity, I decided to use Korean Hip-Hop artist Giriboy's instrumental song 사망 .
To me this track has always had a sense of loneliness, mysteriousness and a feeling of the unkown surrounding it. This represents a dark alleyway perfectly as in the dark you can't see what could be lurking in an alleyway in the unknown darkness of it. Could it be nothing and you were just afraid of the dark? Or could it be far worse?
Tori Amos // Me and a Gun
Well death wasn't lurking in the alleyway, but something as equally horrible was. A few weeks ago, I remember reading on some news site (or seeing it on TV I can't remember) about a place called "Rape Alley" which made me instantly think of Tori Amos' most raw and personal song. Amos recalls back to when she was 21 where she raped after a gig of hers. I chose this song as it represents a terrible, evil danger that could be lurking in an unknown darkness. This song is also sung acapella. This gives it another layer of raw emotion, and this contrasts my other picks for my trinity as they are both instrumentals.
Yellow Magic Orchestra // Castalia
The aftermath. Known as the pioneers of modern electronic music, this YMO song has always had a really sombre and dark aura surrounding it. I used it to represent a dark alleyway as similarly to Giriboy, it has a feeling of uncertainty and isolation that some may feel when in a dark alley all by themselves. The song also represents the moment after the protagonist of this trinity just went through. They're distraught. They're isolated. They're in a moment of uncertainty, alone, in the dark depths of the alley....
Chill Bill
The Busy City
A scene, you say? Well, a scene is only as good as its characters, so let me introduce you to Ray, his wife Lily, and their son Ziggy. Ray is an unenthused 35-year-old with a menial 9-to-5 office job that he has to drag himself to every day. Lily is an introspective 30-year-old freelance writer who struggles to keep her optimism in a world that tests it at every turn. Ziggy is an 8-year-old schoolboy with a positive outlook on life, oblivious to the troubles of his parents. Let's take them all through a typical Monday morning in the busy city!
Ray
Ray's Song: "Rush Hour Blues" by The Kinks
To Ray, the big city is little more than a series of aggravations. The morning rush to make the bus on time, the annoyance of being packed in like sardines with hundreds of other commuters ("I'll be caught in the crush, I'll be pushed and shoved"), and, of course, his well-meaning wife badgering him to get a move on. Of course, Lily is also tasked with getting their son ready to go to school, so her frustration is quite understandable.
Musically, his theme is structured like an old blues song, using the traditional blues chord progression- which makes sense, since the genre gave a voice to poor and working-class people with unglamorous lives in its earliest days. But here, the brisk, uptempo pacing of the song also helps convey the frantic nature of a busy city commute, and the lyrics drop a lot of hints about the narrator's dissatisfaction with the life he's living ("I'm just part of the scenery, I'm just part of the machinery").
Lily
Lily's Song: "LDN" by Lily Allen
Lily breathes a sigh of relief after getting her husband and son out the door. With the full day to herself, she decides to spend it cruising around the city on her bike. Lily, unfortunately, was cursed with an impeccable eye for detail, which is great for her writing, but awful for her outlook on life. "Sun's in the sky, oh, why, oh, why, would I want to be anywhere else?" she desperately sings, all while witnessing an old lady getting beaten and robbed and a pimp negotiating with his crack *****.
Ms. Allen is consistently a pretty cynical lyricist, but I think this song in particular does a good job representing a breezy tour of the city from the perspective of a jaded writer, what with the contrast between the morbid lyrics and the overly chipper music (complete with a line of mariachi horns).
Ziggy
Ziggy's Song: "Believe in Yourself" by Ziggy Marley
And now we have Ziggy, taking a casual walk to school, with his friends joining him along the way. Luckily enough, his school happens to be within walking distance of his flat, so his commute is just a matter of keeping his eyes open and crossing the street at the right time ("listen to the rhythm, the rhythm of the street"). He's not old enough to notice the flaws in the city, so to him, it's a diverse but close-knit community where people greet each other with smiles and, "make things better by working together."
I needed a song that would encompass the character's cheerful outlook on life, and there's no genre that conveys cheeriness and self-satisfaction better than reggae. That, and this song in particular was used as the theme song for a children's show, so it was perfect for representing a child's point of view.

Pixie Lott - Cry Me Out
The pic on your phone
Proves you weren't alone, she was with you, yeah
Now I couldn't care about who, what or where
We're through.
When I hear this song I think of a girl that once deeply in love with her boyfriend that she was in her own world full of flowers and sunshine. But in reality, the love was not strong at all and her world would come crashing down out of the happiness and sunshine, into "real life" which for her is full of darkness and sorrow. The girl finds out her boyfriend has cheated but she tries to make up excuses and put it to the back of her mind. Her life at this point is going from the sun shining, to a few raindrops falling which lead to each droplet tearing a part of her happiness away. They argue about it until she walks off, mascara running down her face partly from the rain and from the tears. Staring at the rain through her window, she laughs as she knows she's 100x better than him and that she doesn't need to be down anymore. Her rainy day had now turned into a sunny day.
Kanye West - See Me Now
I know you thinking, “This that Yeezy we all love”
I’m back, baby, we back, baby
Rain is probably one of the most hated things in the world. This made me think of when everybody hated Kanye West after the mess at VMAs 2009. As soon as he got on stage everyone was praying that he went away and that is what people do when it rains. They are waiting for it to stop and leave. Media slammed Kanye for a long time and he came back with his best album. This song addresses that the good Kanye is back and the one from 2009 has gone which connotes the rain going away and the sun coming out. Everyone is so happy with the outcome. In a way he was having a rainy day and proved the haters wrong with this song/album. People do not like rain, but when the rain has finished, there will always be a brighter side ahead.
Disclosure - Blue You
Baby, ohhhh
England is always raining so I'm an expert when it comes to a rainy day. This song reminds me of London's nightlife as it's not too colourful but is extraordinary. I chose it because I imagine myself to walk around streets on rainy night listening to this. It reminds me of rain because it's dark, the only "light" side of the song are the vocals and even they're threw all over the place. The scattered vocals are the raindrops, the bass that pops up now and again is the thunder and the alluring and spooky instrumental are the clouds which makes the day seem dark and eerie. Even the title represents rain, "Blue You" meaning your down and upset just sets the tone for a "rainy day" as it's all grey and dull.
