The hardest thing for me is finding love. I always get so sad and upset when I see my girlfriends getting whatever guy they want and being able to walk into a any event or store whatever and have the chance to meet a guy. For me, being a gay guy its like we have to make the effort 50x more then the average straight individual. Also I've been out for about 5 years now and I've only met two guys that I can actually see myself being in a relationship with. The only problem is they live 2000 miles away.

It's so tough not being able to find the right guy because there is simply not enough of them out there!! All of them are straight or closeted. It sucks.

family expectations e.g marriage
not knowing if someone is gay or straight
falling for straight guys (3 and counting, possibly 4 by next week)
when nobody in your family is gay
knowing certain people wont except you
acting different around people who will treat you different if they knew

How do you know you're straight?

I'd say the hardest thing being gay I'd being a minority in the LGBT community. You get double discriminated by your own sexual community and then by your ethnic community. Just look at Grindr. There is definitely a race problem.

IMO, the hardest thing about being gay is that, contrary to popular belief, coming out of the closet is not a one-time thing. Its a constant process you go through with every single person you meet. Friends, family, colleagues, associates, friends of friends, random people you might or might not meet again, with ALL of them you have to make the choice whether or not to let them know you are gay. Its exhausting. And then some people feel offended you DIDN'T tell them. Um sorry, its not your goddamn right to know my business, so stop feeling so ****ing entitled as though the issue revolves around YOU.

people need to understand that our sexuality does not define who we really are, there a too many stereotypes and as if it wasn't enough, this even happens within the gay community.

Exactly I always tell people yea I am black and bisexual and I love that's apart of me, however that's not all of who I am.

I also can't stand when people online or in real life scream they have love for the gay community. Yet when they feel the need to insult me or others try to accuse us of having an std (primarily HIV). Like that is such a serious accusations and so many people from both sides suffer from that and your gonna mock that and paint me as that. Then to make up these accusations that we sleep around with every tom, dick & harry. I swear sometimes people have this underlying jealousy to go along with the hate they have with the lgbt community, especially when myself and others don't fit there ignorant stereotypes.

I think being gay is pretty easy. Life got much better after I came out. I really don't care what people think about me or about all the stereotypes. I live by my own rules and am the example of the type of gay I want to portray to the world. Gay doesn't define me. It's not who I am and doesn't fully represent me as a person. I guess living in L.A. is pretty easy for the gays. We're pretty much accepted and loved here. At age 21 I did care what everyone thought about me but as you get older you stop caring. You start doing what makes you happy and live the life that makes you happy.

Honestly, one of the hardest things so far about growing up and being gay has been the lack of representation in the media. Gay characters are most often reduced to stereotypes, like Finn or other gay glee characters. Not to say that it's bad to be an effeminate gay guy (I should know) or a closeted jock, but those are the only two types of teenage gay dudes you will see in media. No matter how accepted we've become, it's still some sort of taboo to show a gay kid growing up or going through highschool without him being a cookie cutter character, or to show any type of romance in movies for the gay characters. Straight guys and girls grow up being catered to by the media, with cheesy romantic teen movies and all that for their entire lives. Dammit, I want one of those, for once I don't want to feel like the other when identifying with a character in a movie, for once I don't want to feel like there's only a gay character there for diversities sake and that nothing will happen to them. At this point, the only places I can actually turn to find myself represented as a normal teenager in normal teenager situations that just is gay are european language movies that are luckily enough available on netflix. I'm sorry for the rant, I'm just sick and tired of the way we're represented in the media. That's my biggest hope for my kids if I one day have any, that they can grow up and if they are lgbt*qa identifying, they will grow up in a world where the media doesn't make them feel like an outsider and oddity every day of their life.
