It deserves high 80s. I feel like she's always either measured up to alternatice rock acts or pop acts and doesn't really belong with either. The music is so unique and different from the previous work each time that I think reviewers have a difficult time with her, especially if they only know her from Dog Days and (possibly) Shake It Out, and the Calvin stuff obviously. I agree that the music critics have a problem with her sound, especially the ones (like the Guardian) that complain about her big sounds, with the view that you can only have one or two big songs, and everything else must be quiet or sparse.
My enjoyment of this album won't be lowered by the Metacritic score, but it does annoy when other stans point to metacritic scores as evidence against Florence - I mean, all stans do it but when it comes to someone like Florence the disconnect really hurts.
