In regards to it sounding like a Katy Perry song:

I think it's more the diction she is using in this song that is giving the effect. Like in the words, "Diiiiii-amond", "Liiiiiiii-fe" "Briiiiii-ght", "toniiiiiii-ght". Katy Perry usually phrases her words like that, whereas Rihanna generally doesn't.

Katy has a reputation on this forum (mainly by the Lady Gaga fans), for being generic, basic, blah blah blah. So people say something sounds like a Katy Perry song to shade the song basically, not necessarily that they sound the same.

I love, love, love the "shine bright like a diamond!" part. The way it sounds so innocent, so playful and cute, but then it's accompanied by Rihanna's deeper vocals that sweep through underneath; it's absolutely brilliant.

After a few listens now, I fully love this song. Well done, Rihanna. 7/7 awesome lead singles.
