I understand the charts have to count each act separately. That's how the metric works. Purple Rain is credited to "Prince and The Revolution" on Billboard 200 cause that's the group he created it under.
But it doesn't remove the artist at the center of the equation. If someone asks, "How many albums has Prince sold?", it's factually his solo "Prince" work + all the other group work he did (The Revolution, New Power Generation, Madhouse, etc.).
Same with Beyonce. If they ask DC sales, it's DC sales, if they specify solo sales, it's solo sales. If they ask for Beyonce's sales period, it's both solo "Beyonce" work + all the group work she did.
If Beyonce released another DC album in the future, would it not count toward her total?
Beyonce and Prince's group situation are different. Prince was still known outside the music community before Prince and The Revolution, and this is more like a Selena Gomez and The Scene thing, so it's not really a group group like Destiny's Child. Beyonce was flat out unknown outside the niche before 2003, and that contains DC's two biggest eras. If you look at her catalog sales and streams, her eras have the same gap in differences as her eras go down in list, but DIL and Survivor's gap is huge. If it had been consistent, then sure it adds to her total but it kinda shows the GP don't give a damn for Bey pre 2003.
Wanna Be Startin' Somethin' 12/10
Baby Be Mine 20/10
The Girl Is Mine 10/10
Thriller 9/10
Beat It 50/10
Billie Jean 50/10
Human Nature 10/10
P.Y.T. 35/10
The Lady in My Life 40/10
The Girl Is Mine is one of the worst duets ever, Human Nature is bland as hell, Beat It is annoying. The title track is eh. I'm struggling to even recall the melody of The Lady In My Life but I know I've always ranked it among the weaker tracks on the album.

@Clump why isn't his work on Spotify? Ghey...
He doesn't like the internet (). I will gift it to you.
And I will keep you warm
Through the shadows of the night
Let me touch you with my love
I can make you feel so right
And baby through the years
Even when we're old and gray
I will love you more each day
'Cause you will always be the lady in my life
This part is perfect.
@Clump I don't live in the US, but thanks anyway. I'll just download it lol

Which is completely untrue. Because she wouldn't have been able to launch a solo career off her own name if she was unknown.
The gap just shows that people were ONLY here for Bey. And post 2003 made it easier to just support her.
