Moore, 53, is winning rave reviews for roles in two very different films that screened at Toronto. The first, Still Alice, is a drama based on Lisa Genova’s 2007 novel about a college professor with early onset Alzheimer’s disease. The Hollywood Reporter's Scott Feinberg calls Moore’s performance “nuanced and heartbreaking,” with “several showstopping scenes.” He went on to write that with the right distributor, Moore “would immediately become the potential favorite to win the best actress Oscar.”
Moore’s other noteworthy TIFF film is Maps to the Stars, director David Cronenberg’s pitch-black satire of Los Angeles celebrity culture. The film itself is divisive among critics, but the actress is winning near universal acclaim for what Variety calls “a fearless performance far more gonzo than the out-of-touch satire that contains it.”
Given that Moore is long overdue, there’s an outside chance that she could be recognized for both films in 2015.
She’ll also get some serious visibility this fall with her featured supporting role as President Coin in The Hunger Games: Mockingjay — Part 1.
Moore admitted that she’d love to win an Oscar, though she says it isn’t the first thing on her priority list. “Oh, of course I care… it always feels more fun to win,” she told The Guardian last year. “But at the end of the day, yes, I love to win, but I like having a job more.”
Oh for ****'s sake give this old hag a ****ing Oscar already.
The biggest kii of this whole Katy/Taylor feud is that she will outsell Prism in the US in three weeks and only the US sales of 1989 will outsell KP's WW sales. I just can't at Katy lmao
1989 won't sell over 3m in the US. This is...the part where her huge country fanbase say 'I don't want it'. Act like a pop star sell like a pop star. I have forseen it.
What is that? You know we're not in the Speak Now era, right?
1989 won't sell less than 3 million copies in the US. if you think that will happen because she left country. Literally no one on her fanbase gives a crap and will buy the album anyway
I know this is biT rich coming from a Madonna stan buty Jlol is so desperate
At least Madonna takes risks and actually thinks her career moves out. I've seen no indication of any sort of intelligence behind JLO's career moves that weren't made by other people.
And the Oscars are ames but still so ahead of the others.
The Tonys are cool but voted by 50 people, the Emmys love to repeat winners and make some disgraceful choices... The Shammys everyone here knows about that mess.
FYI Alecia Moore performed at the Shammys and the Oscars this year. Industry respect >>>
DeadLi got brought up in my American Studies class today. I'm not really a fan but her impact is starting to become something none of those other 90s R&B icons could ever touch. She's had a huge resurgence in the last year or two.
This new era will be a test for Taylor Swift's album selling power. We'll see if she actually needs country to sell albums or if she will have the same album sales of a pop girl.
