Although this is true, overall viewership is still a vital part of a shows success. Just look at Harrys Law on NBC, it was getting what 1.5s and 9 million viewers. That's an old skewing show! but it made it to a 2nd season. It all depends on the state of the network. CBS can afford older skewing show because they bring in more viewers overall. But it's true that the demo is a very big deciing factor in todays landscape.
Also, the average person won't understand the demo shares. simple numbers are easier to understand. It's big or its not lol
