I don't think it's the sound because AAY was acclaimed, it was the promo that ruined everything. She needed to perform at Ellen, Today Show, Jimmy Kimmel, The View she needed to be literally everywhere.

No doubt if it was promoted it would have done much better but the sound she is shooting for never would have gotten much airplay on the radio and that's what I mean when I say it's "the sound". She would have to go for a different genre and mature her image
a lot to ever get radio airplay. What I'm saying is the song did get favorable reviews but in order for her to really do well and get played on the radio she would have to go straight pop, dance, or do something similar to the sound she had with Holiday. People view her as a child actress and associate her with Disney and Lizzie McGuire, her PR team needs to start doing something to position her differently. Not to the extent of Miley but I think she could pull off a sexy but sweet image.
Also, a lot of people keep saying it did well in Australia with promo so therefore it would do well in the US with promo. It's not that simple. The US is a very difficult market to break and the tastes in music are different. As an example, The Veronicas "You Ruin Me" is doing amazing in Australia but I could never see it coming close to a hit in the US.

This song was cursed from the get go. It premiered when Robin Williams passed away and then the video premiered with Joan Rivers passed.

Robin Williams committing suicide on the day it came out was terrible. I was so sad and I cried so my first time listening to AAY was through tears so maybe that is part of the reason why the song didn't click for me. I probably associate it with a negative feeling lol
