It's interesting to see how many casual music buyers are out there but however uninformed they are.
This is now our world, too much fractured, too much informed. In the past we were more informed with less information, if that makes sense.
Pirating today is one thing but we pirated also much in the past, hell I've some hundreds of cassettes somewhere in my basement, no, the problem is to bring the good music to you.

International Anthony Burgess Foundation favored Ultraviolence
They also draw a line from Burgess - Nabokov - Lolita - Violence and Violin in the lyrics of Ultra.
Quote:
Lana Del Rey is getting ready to give us all a little of the old Ultraviolence come June 16 when her new album drops, and the International Anthony Burgess Foundation, for one, is pretty stoked.
“We’ve definitely heard about Lana’s choice to title her record Ultraviolence,” Clare Preston-Pollitt, events and marketing officer at the International Anthony Burgess Foundation, told MTV News. “We picked up on it some time ago and we were intrigued by it … It’s fantastic that ‘A Clockwork Orange’ is still providing inspiration to such a diverse range of artists around the world over 50 years since its original publication.”
Del Rey’s new disc cribs its name from Anthony Burgess’ most popular novel, for those who didn’t spend their lunch period in high school reading in the corner (or who haven’t stepped foot in a HS English class).
Although we’re not sure yet how much the book influenced the album’s lyrics (although we could easily see Alex cast as the dark-as-dark lover in “Shades Of Cool”), the title itself is a term coined by Burgess himself meaning … just what it sounds like. Serious violence leading to serious hurts.
“Burgess was a prolific writer and musician who described himself as belonging to the ‘fraternity of the renegades,’” Preston-Pollitt said. “He was a creative force, using his writing, especially ‘A Clockwork Orange,’ to examine the nature of good and evil and the importance of free will. It would be interesting to hear what impact the book (or the film) had on Lana artistically.”
The film version of “A Clockwork Orange” was directed by Stanley Kubrick, who also directed the cinematic adaptation of Vladimir Nabokov’s “Lolita,” a book often mentioned in Del Rey’s music.
“Lolita,” according to Preston-Pollitt, could have spawned the term “ultraviolence.”
“It could be that Burgess had been influenced by a passage in Nabokov’s ‘Lolita’ where the narrator examines the word ‘violence’ and notes that the word exists next to the word ‘violet’ and ‘violin’ etc. in the dictionary,” she said.
There are some seriously literary layers to Lana’s work here, people, but I digress…
Like the rest of us poor slobs waiting to see what the tracklist of Ultraviolence holds, Preston-Pollitt isn’t sure yet what she thinks of Lana’s use of the term. Still, she has no objection to the singer referencing it.
“If her use of the term ‘ultraviolence’ and her reference to Anthony Burgess’ novel leads others across the globe to discover Burgess’ work, then that’s a great thing,” she said.

Jack White Black Keys Feud Rolling Stone Ripoff
Jack White is pretty sure you've heard of the White Stripes PHOTO BY GETTY IMAGES

Jack White has words for the Black Keys, and they aren't nice. In an excerpt from the next Rolling Stone cover, the Lazaretto-maker reiterates his previously made-in-private theory about the Nashville-via-Akron duo ripping him off. He even takes it to the schoolyard, which is fitting not only because of the inherently childish nature of the conversation, but because the beef arose when White told his ex-wife he didn't want their kids going to school with Dan Auerbach's kids.
"There are kids at school who dress like everybody else," he said, "because they don't know what to do, and there are musicians like that, too. I'll hear TV commercials where the music's ripping off sounds of mine, to the point I think it's me. Half the time, it's the Black Keys. The other half, it's a sound-alike song because they couldn't license one of mine. There's a whole world that's totally fine with the watered-down version of the original." Oof.
White explained what he meant by way of grouping Duffy, Lana Del Rey, and Adele in the same category, implying that they're also purported ripoff artists in the vein of his nemeses the Black Keys.
"Some people will hear that and say 'Oh, Jack White thinks he's the first person to play the blues,'" he said. "But certain acts open up a market for a certain style. Amy Winehouse: Did she invent white soul? Wearing a beehive? No. But she did something brand new and fresh, altogether as a package, and you see who's in her wake, from the Duffys to the Lana Del Reys. Adele selling 20 million records? That would not have happened if Amy Winehouse was alive."
"The White Stripes did the same thing," White went on, "and in our absence, you're gonna find someone to fill that. And you get a band like the Black Keys, who said they never heard of the White Stripes? Sure."

Danke an rbautz for posting these articles and throwing in some German for the Lana fans
To people who say she will open up with 200k: no, she won't and you better get used to that. Although I will say that the US market is all of a sudden her biggest one. The sound of UV is way more suited towards the US market. I don't think this happend on purpose, it just is what it is.
The markets where is most popular right now are Eastern & Southern Europe, Nothern America, Australia. Her weakest: Western Europe (including the UK) & Asia.

That's what makes me wonder why the big change of style compared to BTD. Her biggest market was Western Europe and now it's one of her weakers...
I gotta confess - the new songs don't touch me as much as BTD-songs so far. I'm not sure how excited I'm for the album. I still am but had she given us something more similar to BTD, I'd be more excited.
I am all for an artist evolving, having a new sound etc. but you can't just change your whole style from one era to another. At least not without loosing some fans. I'm sure she'll gain new fans due to the change but I'm asking myself what will be the result - more or less fans.
My guess is, if the rest of the songs follow this direction, that this era won't be as successful as BTD and that pains me.
Edit: I'm sure she'll open with much bigger ww numbers for this album. However, I doubt there'll be longevity like with the first album...and this was/is her chance to truly blow up!
