Yes February-May was a great time to be a Gaga fan, she was everywhere. They really tried to make BTW her Rhythm Nation era
Omfg, yes! I always like to think that Rhythm Nation was what Gaga was going for with Born This Way, at least in terms of commercial success and impact.
Imagine if it was her Rhythm Nation era. 7-8 huge WW smashes, 14-20 million copies sold WW, astounding iconic tour, a plethora of memorable outfits.
I think Born This Way was what she had been wanting to build up to her entire life - I think that is why everything seems so messy now (aside from firing her team). I mean.. being brought to the GRAMMYS in an egg for the whole world to unveil your new single/album..
Rob Fusari did say she wrote Born This Way way back when. She definitely had plans, but she never thought she'd be "Mother Monster". 2009 Gaga would've spit in your face if you told her that.

Once I got into Janet it was clear to me that they tried

I wish I liked it. I feel so alone on the hating bandwagon
Fashion! is meh. So is Donatella. I don't get the love for either of them. I'd take the longer version of Swine over either of them since it at least builds to headbanging realness. All three have horrifically bad lyrics.
The thing I love about Gaga is that she doesn't have to rely on a huge elaborate background or moving objects in the background to put on an amazing show unlike basics like Katy and her DH performance at the Grammy's.
Watching this makes me appreciate how epic she is.
I don't even think the performance is flawless, but it makes me appreciate that;
1. The egg arrival/opening on stage was genius.
2. She isn't a brilliant dancer, but there are VERY few popstars who could sing and dance like that live.
3. She owned the damn thing with an egg and an organ. Relatively minimal.
4. The monster paw is pretty damn 'iconic' for her and it's remarkable really that she has two instantly recognisable gestures (PF eye, paw). I mean, think about how many 'gestures/poses' there are memorable in pop.
5. She had some nerve to perform this song in front of a crowd of people who'd definitely connect it to EY.
The massive-ness of BTW the single is the biggest testament to how unbelievably successful TFM era was. The Grammy performance slayed but the world waited for her to come out of that white van to the red carpet in an egg because TFM set the stage for her to slaughter anything.
...TMB was even still going. God this seems a lifetime ago.
