When I talk to my friends about music the names that come up most commonly when talking about pop are Beyonce, Britney, and Gaga. And when Rihanna is mentioned ppl will usually compliment her on her style and say she has good songs, but no one ever refers her as being this groundbreaking artist.
Yes, Rihanna has stayed around longer than any of us would have imagined, but she still hasn't made a huge impact on pop culture.
Yes, Rihanna has 11 #1s and is tied with Whitney. But, let's use the fact that the likes of Whitney and Mariah actually had to work to get a #1 single. They didn't have itunes rely on. Their music had to reach a certain number of audience to hit #1 on billboard.
