it's funny how on the one hand, everyone waves around their fave's accomplishment with pride as if they were their own victories, but when you have evidence that these aren't even genuine accomplishments (which essentially invalidates the feelings you have toward the awards and the image of said celebrity) you choose to just gloss right over that
like, is no one realizing what's actually being said here
everyone's going on and on about how "well, it deserved video of the year!!"
(which I agree with, mind you. it was exceptionally well produced.)
but y'all are literally defending a win that wasn't even honest
if all you have to do is ride your hype to win awards, then what value do they really have?

MTV's honchos just need to stop advertising them as fan voted and openly treat them as what they usually are -- organization selected and presented, that's the only part that's not on the up and up -- MTV wants to benefit from both the fan frenzy with the voting, while also maintaining the right to award as they see fit. But that's not something that reflects as dishonesty or foulness on Bey's part.
I believe that MTV probably selected her as the winner and likely distribute most of their major awards in this manner; their awarding Bey's video (which was indeed the best video) doesn't make her win illegitimate. Considering how seriously she takes her visual presentation and how much she puts into the very thing this show is based on awarding, any win she gets as a video artist goes well beyond "just riding her own hype." As far as her attendance, she's proven herself loyal to the show regardless of the situation with her awards and has given them performances literally every single time she's released an album. None of her history with other award shows indicate this either -- she turned right back around and presented at this year's Grammy's after major losses the previous year where she performed
while losing both AOTY
and her genre category. There's nothing there supporting Kanye's claim of her being some entitled brat that won't participate unless she's getting her way.
