The reason Urban music rules TRL is because urban music RULES the US Charts period.

Well, at least the JRL Top 20 is the real old-school TRL that is votes-only instead of other **** added on to the votes, and screws over Rap (esp. Gangsta, Soulja Boy/T-Pain-type rap) purposely in protest of the show's pro-Rap/Urban/Hip-Hop/R&B bias, and is the most Rock/Alternative-leaning of the Multi-genre vote-based c/ds. The regular countdowns twice a week thing is good to a certain extent, but from the TRL P/ds standpoint, it is a terrible idea to do as it wreaks havoc with the p/ds.

It's sad you tried to advertise your horribly biased countdown, in your response about how horrible the new "urban inspired TRL format" Your countdown is as biased as TRL has been lately, so you pretty much made a insignificant post. Face it; with TRL's ultra ****** new format, it's based on the charts and downloads; and Urban Music is at the forefront. Even if TRL premieres all these rock videos, unless they're garnering pop airrlay & downloads ("crushcrushcrush", "Nine In The Afternoon"), they probably won't crack the Top 10. I'm not saying any genre is better than the other because everyone has different taste in music, but Tiearra & Yankee made TWO great points:

Moron. Seriously, shut up with that ******** and face the facts: Hip. Hop. Is. Popular. Just. Cause. You. Don't. Like. It. Doesn't. Mean. Everyone. Else. Does.

JRL Top 20 (Oct. 2007-Mar.2008):
Rap/Urban/Hip-Hop/R&B: 0.45%
|
Well obviously that number is gonna be low. Only 3 rap songs on the voting list, and you have dozens of songs for other genres. Doesn't leave many options for urban music does it?
BTW, The Vent idea is good, but i doubt it'll do anything for TRL

BTW JGibson I think TRL retired Chris Brown today,I caught the end of their show to see who was todays #1 and heard them say it's retired.Just letting you know in case you didn't so that way people can predict and guess who'll be #1 in the Prediction Thread and also so that way you can post it in the recap thread.

This is my little bit of Spring Break homework.

They said that he retired, but I don't know if they really meant it cuz let's face it, it's TRL nowadays. They didn't even do anything special for it, they just played the vid, no recap or special flashback of the song, just the vid being played.

Crushcrushcrush didn't retire though, it looks like today, the are doing the top 10 based only on the TRL votes, this is how it should be & MTV .com the Vent I might post my complaint

They showed both the votes + others stuff at the very beginning (which is the one that counts for p/ds), and finally, they did show the votes-only top 10.
It needs to be back to votes only!

I was going to submit this to the Vent, but it said "collection is null".

Hey!
My name is Andy, I'm 16, and I'm from Missouri. I began watching TRL in June 2003 and watched it daily until January 2006, when it was moved to an earlier time slot. Since then, I've only seen the last 5-10 minutes of it, except on my days off of school and during the summer. I'm going to be brutally honest. The show had been going downhill for quite some time and, since October 2007, it has been at rock bottom. Had it "always been about the fans", as you say, it wouldn't be in the position it is now. I was actually thinking the show was a lost cause, but the "vent" has given me some hope. My idea to make TRL better is essentially a renaissance - to go back to its roots (the music and the fans). My recommendations, which are basically just reversals of the negative changes, are as follows...
> 5 days-per-week
> 50-day retirement rule
> 90-minute shows
> Only TRL votes factor
> Former VJs as guest hosts (i.e. Carson, Brian, Stephen, Susie, etc.)
> Less hiatuses
> Live, not taped
> Mid-late afternoon/early evening time slot
> New graphics and set
> Phone voting
> Spring break and summer locations
Thank you for your consideration,
ATRL.net member and former fan
P.S. As cheesy as it may sound, TRL use to be the highlight of my day and was what I looked forward to after school. I especially loved Spankin' New Music Week. I would love for the show to turn things around and make it to its 10th-year anniversary in September.

What I sent last night was brief, but I mentioned how the vote-based top ten and statistics were the main reason I continued to check recaps after 2005... suggesting they start posting the real top ten on MTV Overdrive everyday. Looks like they sort of listened today. Maybe it's a start.
