She sheds her skin (dies), the water turns from blue to red (blood) and she offers it toward the sky (the afterlife), etc. I think the song is about rebirth through death. As in, dying, being cleansed of your former life, and being reborn.

Especially since it sounds like she's in a hopeless relationship. The whole Midas is king and he holds me so tight thing makes me think she is treated more as a possession than partner, and the earlier mention of the looking glass suggests a certain duality or doubling within herself. The possibility to branch out, to achieve more. She just chose to die to achieve that goal.

Ugh, "Shame For You" is SO good! Who else could mix but Lily could pull off that mix of sensuality and humor? Unfortunately, ATRL doesn't do well with subtlety (especially when it comes to sex), so I'm not surprised that voters didn't get this one.

I would agree, but I think the video is obviously a reference to the Lady of Shalott. She was this woman who was cursed to live in this tower and weave endlessly. She was not allowed to stop weaving, and she could only look at the world out of a window, but she could only see out that window by looking in the mirror. Eventually, she manages to escape the tower and heads down the river in this canoe. She dies before she gets there, and when she arrives she's sort of like a bride being delivered unto Camelot.


I'm probably reading too much into it, but that's what the lyrics + video combo reminded me of. And I love Florence a lot because I can find literary references in her work.
