What do you mean, "irregardless of the lyrics"? You're seriously judging the song's meaning solely by how it sounds?
It actually has nothing to do with that. It's about the costs of being famous and attracting a mass audience, and how such endeavors can cause you to lose sight of who you are, what you want, and what you stand for. On one hand, the narrator's driven by the desire to leave his mark on the world before he dies ("who the f*** wants to die alone, all dried up in the desert sun), but on the other hand, he's sick of having to surround himself with fair weather friends (some nights I wish that this all would end/ 'cause I could use some friends for a change). All the while, he's suffering from the constant lingering fear of falling into irrelevance (some nights I'm scared you'll forget me again).
