It's hard to say. If Nick and the Operation Gaga owner are telling the truth, it looks like she really did fire him and it was not mutual. I read the interview that Billboard Biz made about him and he said it. He was actually devastated because Gaga was the main source of income for Atom Factory (his company).

Well, it could feasibly have gone either way, since he wanted more pop, and she wanted more art. Their visions were too different, and she was unwilling to budge on her art in favor of fulfilling her contract and "doing her job." When things didn't go her way, she would've just fired him like she did whenever anyone else didn't agree with her and used him as a scapegoat.
