did you miss the whole aspect of her never realizing or being able to fulfill her true powers while her mother, the current supreme, was in power? that was...fairly obvious. she only gained more powers (the sight, then being supreme) as her mother got closer and closer to death.
now i'm not saying Coven was perfect, but the recurring motifs of (1) relationship between motherhood/family and daughters and (2) parallel between racism of witches and african americans (both historic and modern) were wonderfully done in Coven.
