What could make a woman angrier than another woman trying to take what's rightfully hers? This song showcases the muses breaking out of their usually dumpy mood into a more forceful and bracing style! The lyrics are easy to understand: don't come after my man and I won't have to take action and beat your ass (of course they don't actually say that, it's more implied. That being said, if someone was trying to take your significant other, what would you do?!) In the song, they're constantly saying "꺼져버려 (kkeojyeobeolyeo)" which is a rough translation of "get lost" or "piss off", and in the tone, you can hear their anger and frustration with this woman; I believe this sets the mood of the song very well, along with the very forceful and abrasive rap near the bridge! Another part I'm really in love with is when they say "Careful" and "Watch out" as to warn the wannabe-mistress to step cautiously when messing with things you have no right to interfere with!
Lots of people think this is a 'sad girl' pop record, but I think it's an angry one. I had a lot of suppressed anger in me from the past six or seven years, and I wanted to get it all out. I finally felt confident enough to make the album I wanted to make.
In this song she rebels against what is a controlling relationship. She explains her frustration in the lyrics and uses the song as a platform to express her position and to give herself a voice. I think it's great that she was able to take all that pent up anger (a lot of it was based on the way her label was treating her and forcing her into a narrow style) and she could put that into her music and make it come across with great conviction.

In a huge amount of Jessie's songs we basically see her desire to have her lover next to her, in a relationship, but he always keeps on going away. I think that in "All On You" we see a little bit of Jessie's anger, and especially in the bridge. As I see it, in the first verse she basically describes how a girl can fall in love with him, his "charming" powers, and that's basically the same way in which she fell in love with him. In the pre-chorus, we can already hear that he never wanted to stay, that she is the only one who wants him, but in the chorus we hear that it is no longer her decision in this relationship, whether to stay or not, it's his and if he won't choose her "before the night's over", she will leave. In the second verse we hear a beautiful sort of metaphor to her desire of remaining with her boyfriend, saying she can't go away in the morning. After the pre-chorus, chorus and post-chorus, we finally get to the bridge where she claims she is "wasting her time with him" and that she is unsure of her feelings, but she will still leave if he doesn't make the final decision.
In conclusion, I think this song shows Jessie's angry side the best. It's not right "in your face", but you can see that she is not feeling well with her "speechless" boyfriend. The melody is typical Jessie, you can't hear any sort of angry voice from her, but she did it justice with the amazing lyrics.

AVRIL LAVIGNE
"FORGOTTEN"
To be honest, this round is perfect for Avril Lavigne. Why? We all know that Avril Lavigne came to the music scene as the anti-Britney who's the epitome of bubblegum pop during that time. Avril captured the hearts of many as she was a breath of fresh air. She sounds raw and sincere. Her angsty songs, vibe and image helped her reach the other spectrum of pop music during her debut. That's why I honestly believe Avril will definitely deliver something outstanding to the table once again.
I decided to submit her most angry song. This song is still considered to be the song that best showcases Avril's hard rock, grunge side. Forgotten speaks about reminiscing how certain people of your life ruined your once perfect world. The lyrics in this song is more than enough to make you believe that she is angry to the nth level. The instruments and her angelic turning into angsty voice all throughout the song blended so well, making this song one of the best "go to" songs when you are extremely angry.
It is by far, one of the deepest Avril Lavigne songs and also one of the most rock songs! Please take some time to enjoy this Alternative rock, post-grunge and even metal song from my Artist. It's nothing like her pop rock radio singles. Forgotten will make you remember the extreme anger you felt in the past. That's how contagious it is and that's one of the elements of a good song - it makes you reflect on yourself and relate yourself to the song's theme.

Colbie is best known for her sweet pop rock songs, so "Just Like That", taken from her latest studio album "Gypsy Heart," is an unusual one from her. In the song, she sings about disappointment that a boy caused. She has already been over him, but she has to spill her heart out. "If I had meant anything, you'd had never done me just like that." The guitar riffs in the pre-chorus emphasize her anger very well. "Just like that" is repeated thoughout the song heavily, making it bitter. In the bridge, her voice sounds confident as she says "I'm feeling much smarter." This song shows a different side of Colbie, but she remains who she really is.

Brandy has quite a few songs where you can tell that she is irritated or annoyed by her significant other, but none match the intensity of her anger in I thought. The lyrics show that she is mad that she & her love were taken advantage of. As the song goes on, Brandy's anger builds & builds until she finally explodes shortly after the bridge & belts her way through the song.
Wow. Queen.

Anger... and a bit of Jealousy
In this song, "So Legit" Lana expresses extreme anger, and a bit of jealousy. This song is about Lady Gaga, and how Lana thinks she doesn't deserve her fame, and is personally attacking her.
"You're looking like a man, and talking like a baby. How the f**k is your song in a coke commericial"
If it isn't obvious enough that she is talking about gaga, here are a few more lines of her personal attack.
"Stefani, you suck. , I know your selling twenty million. Wish you could've seen you when we booed you of in Williamsburg".
"Have we all gone gaga crazy"
This song is shows Lana in a state of anger we've never seen. Lana is usually Calm Cool and collected, but in this song she pulls all the stop to make a gaga look and feel like a piece of garbage. She seems a bit jealous, and also angry that gaga is famous. But I guess she got her way, cause now Lana is selling albums just like her. This song truly exhibits Lana's deepest anger, and shows it off in a standard lana song as well.
Tinashe isn't really the type of artist to erupt in anger. She's the type of artist that is usually cool and composed, one that doesn't necessarily want to let you see her sweat. That's not to say that she's unemotional. "Stunt," showcases anger, it's just easy to miss with a passive listen. The song is vibey, vaguely hypnotic, with lots of repetition and dreamy background vocals, and it's easy to get lost into. However, the anger of the song slowly bubbles up.
The breathy opening line, isn't some come-on, it's her coolly singling "**** your opinion." The song more or less is Tinashe responding to somebody that has criticized her, or done her wrong. She sings, "And I really can't believe the audacity / Don't you play with me / Damn, **** you think I am, careful what you sayin / Cuz you gone regret the day you ran that slick mouth right." It's all easy to lose in the sound of the track, but in typical Tinashe style she zigged when someone expected her to zag. She took what would be the typical response, a fiery put-down, and hid her anger in a cool, hypnotic song to rub it into the other person's face; she's not the typical R&B singer, , she " switched it up"

The anger is built up by the media and public trying to ruin her career, how they've tried to spread negative rumours about her and how she is now blacklisted. However, she sings about being strong enough to take it all and is prepared to be herself and make the music she wants to make, instead of following the certain "rules" in the Pop world in order to be successful.
This is a very personal song from Alexandra and it's her lead single from her free EP, "Renegade", which is available to download for free.

Break You Hard declares a kind of rage right from the start with it's guitar riff, spoken "I'm about to break you" line followed by a crash and introduction with "This is not a love song, honey, if you want one better turn it off." It's one of my absolute favorite songs from our Mrs. Sinclair so I was familiar with identifying the heavy metal power chords and threatening lyrical matter that symbolized and anchored "anger."
It's interesting that her pronunciation of "break you hard" sounds suspiciously like "break your heart," intentional or not, the dual meaning is interesting. It also doesn't delve too far from the thematic content of it's album, Perfectionist, either as it is yet another dark track conveying a form of liberation despite the content at face value. In a rise or fit of anger, liberation is our following objective so it's important to note that feelings like frustrations, pain, and disappointments can still be celebrated without becoming invalidated. Ergo, I find a song like Break You Hard, where wrath is present sonically, thematically, and lyrically can still be great representation regardless the contrasting fact that it's simply about grieving a failed relationship.
lyrics
I'm about to break you
This is not a love song
Honey, if you want one better turn it off
Everything was working
Honey, when we kissed and never spoke at all
Slammin' doors and breakin' plates
Somethin' else I'd rather break
Johnny boy, it's time to take it like a man-man-man
Kiss the boys and make 'em cry
Make 'em cry, make 'em cry
Don't need your heart 'cause I got mine
I got mine, I got mine
Take my love
Before I go
'Cause you should know
I'm about to break you hard
Take my love (take my love)
Before I go
'Cause you should know
I'm about to break you hard
Break you hard
Break you hard
I'm about to break you hard
Break you hard
Break you hard
I'm about to break you
Drama, drama
Call your momma
Take the caddy keys, and go
Feels like we are stuck here in a badly written TV show
Slammin' doors and breakin' plates
Somethin' else I'd rather break
Johnny boy, it's time to take it like a man-man-man
Kiss the boys and make 'em cry
Make 'em cry, make 'em cry
Don't need your heart 'cause I got mine
I got mine, I got mine
Take my love
Before I go
'Cause you should know
I'm about to break you hard
Take my love (take my love)
Before I go
'Cause you should know
I'm about to break you hard?
Break you hard
Break you hard
I'm about to break you hard
Break you hard
Break you hard
I'm about to break you (ha-ha-ha)
Lipstick, lies, tears, tragedy
Lipstick, lies, tears, tragedy
Lipstick, lies, tears, tragedy (sit down, hold still)
Lipstick, lies, tears, tragedy
Lipstick, lies, tears, tragedy (it'll only hurt for a moment)
Lipstick, lies, tears, tragedy (and before you even open your eyes)
Lipstick, lies, tears, tragedy (I'ma break you hard)
Lipstick, lies, tears, tragedy (I'll be gone)
Take my love
Before I go
'Cause you should know
I'm about to break you hard
Take my love
Before I go
'Cause you should know
I'm about to break you hard
Break you hard
Break you hard
I'm about to break you hard
Break you hard
Break you hard
I'm about to break you
Dido and angry don't really fit eachother, do they? Her voice is so smooth, it is impossible to hear angerness in it but there is a song that kinda comes close to that: "Blackbird".
In this song, Dido describes her relationship as being one of those where only one side truly cares and it gets to a point she gets annoyed: "He put the coffee in the cup and with milk he filled it up, he added sugar and I never knew he liked it like that". Apparentely they have been living together for a while but she gets to a point where she basically says she doesn't recognize him anymore: "Were not the strangers we were when we first met but the kind of strangers at the end".
She keeps on going: "And he walked down the hall and he opened the door and said: "Of course, I'll call". She knows he won't.
After that verse, the chorus kicks in and we can see Dido is quite upset with her heart that directs her to the wrong people: "Heart why do I bring you love when you all you give me back is pain? Heart why do we search it out? To watch you wash your hands and walk away."
All this situation caused Dido to feel like she has a blackbird in her chest, caged in and she can't do nothing about: "Now theres a black black black bird in my chest. All a flutter and all caged in, wanting to break free with the wolves in my head".
Nait - Revengeful indeed. Seem like a payback song (which I guess can be anger as well) It sounds nice
Lovesong - somewhat Sad and angry . Her voice somewhat shows it tbh. Its not a bad choice
Legend E - Seems like regret. Yes her voice is not that angry
Yvess - Avril always had angry songs. She one of probably few notable artist who can sound angry in a song.
Pretty good
Prezli - Love how her anger shows in her voice. I agree with your explanation as well
BeyRih - Feels more like betrayal in a way Also seen your explanantion
HausofNiko - This girl crazy indeed angry and a complete mess
Bloomers - Lyrically it almost work. She need to serve it vocally as well
JustLuke - I really dont feel the anger that much. It feels more about strength
Kitt- Perfect angry song imo. I love it tbh. Lyrically and vocally
Pedro - I can somewhat see the anger you explained but I think its about being free and being completely honest
Nikolai.
Nait Phoenix- This song is a bop and the lyrics show how pissed off they are
lovesong- It seems more to me like she's annoyed, or just venting rather than ANGRY. I like the song tho
Legend E- Don't hear much anger in this, I feel she's pleading.
Yvess- You can literally hear her anger, the guitars add so much for that emotion as well. Great entry
Prezli- Even though this is a "slow" song I could DEFINITLEY hear her anger in this "You stole my heart and you broke in, Started the flame I'm burning" love that line!
Bey_Rihstan- Yass Brandy, keep serving these bops. You could really feel her sass
HausofNiko- Lana is DRAGGING Gaga to the pits it's literally like she's just ranting
Bloomers- Damn I don't wanna **** with Tinashe she made herself look like a BAD BITCH
JustLuke- Like others that submitted, this doesn't really show anger but more power, and wanting to be strong. Still a good song
Kitt- Natalia has got the anger thing down she's also someone that I wouldn't want to mess with and the double entendre of "break you hard" is genius
Pedro- I wouldn't call this an angry song but you can definitely hear the emotion
Umich
Nait Phoenix (Nine Muses)
It sounds a bit upbeat/happy for me, but maybe that’s just the beat of the song. And as I read the lyrics of the song, I see where the angriness kicks in. Nice track.
lovesong (Sky Ferreira)
I love the emotion in her voice and the grittiness that she gives. I think she sold me. For some reason, I felt engulfed in the song itself.
Legend E (Jessie Ware)
To me, I get sad/mellow. The lyrics do suggest an angry tone, but that’s not something I would have picked up on first listen. Still a good track, so thanks for sharing!
Yvess (Avril Lavigne)
I think you had a lot to choose from because, it’s Avril. I think you did a good job of choosing one for her. It also helps that she comes from a rock background, so it helps with the overall emotion of the song!
prezli (Colbie Caillat)
She’s definitely heartbroken in some way, and she shows that. I get more of a sad/upset vibe but trending toward being angry. Overall, it is something different than what we’re used to hearing from her, so I appreciate that.
Bey_Rihstan (Brandy)
Brandy has the ability to take you through a round of emotions in just 3-4 minutes, and I definitely felt the heated angry vibes from the song. And Brandy has definitely had her share of heartbreaks to lead her to an angry track.
HausofNiko (Lana Del Rey)
Ruthless. Well, I can definitely say she’s angry. For why? I don’t know. But, I think you picked a perfect song for this challenge. She needs counseling.
Bloomers (Tinashe)
I think she chose a unique way to convey how pissed off she was. It wasn’t long before the “shits” and “bitches” came flowing in. Flawless track btw.
JustLuke (Alexandra Burke)
There’s a certain energy I felt when I heard it. I think it’s just the fact that she has a powerful voice backed by amazing instrumentals. You can feel the build up in the chorus, and that’s something that definitely carried the emotion of this song.
Kitt (Natalia Kills)
I’m liking the opening of the song, which definitely sets the tone for the rest of it. She has such a clear voice, so you can hear everything she’s saying (take notes, Ariana). Very strong track.
Pedro (Dido)
I think you did a good job making the best of picking out something angry from her discography, seeing as she doesn’t really touch on subjects of the like. Overall, it seems kinda mellow, but you kinda have to dissect the lyrics to get the general meaning, like you did.
Ratings in this order: Speezy/Nikolai/Umich

This is also only the second time that a contestant receives a perfect score, congrats Natalia!
And now we find out which flop will come back into the competition. The flops were asked to present their best work that is good enough to be able to redeem themselves, only two flops submitted and they were:
Lonely Town is the best single off Brandon's acclaimed new album The Desired Effect. The flawless track was produced by the super talented Ariel Rechstaid (the new Carly Rae Jepsen album, HAIM, Usher's Climax and many of our favorite songs.)
Lonely Town was heavily influenced by 80s Pop. The synths are out of this world and the way they mixed with the acoustic and electronic drums gives me goosebumps every time.
At first, Lonely Town sounds like a light and airy throwback love song but a closer look at the lyrics reveals how dark this song actually is. It's one of those songs you keep singing over and over again without realizing its true meaning, then when you find out you're like "ooh mess " I love that! It's clever and speaks volumes about Brandon's songwriting skills.
Lonely Town is the perfect example of a flawless modern 80s Pop song. I call it SynthPop perfection but don't only take my words for it. Below are some reviews from our fellow ATRL members

Best Song: "With Love"
Simply, "With Love" is pop perfection. From the hypnotic club beat, to the catchy chorus, it's bound to make you bop around and get up off your feet and dance. It's in a way timeless, it does not sound dated whatsoever, and is a classic Hilary track.
Hilary DESERVES to stay in this competition because she's currently canceling all of her tour dates, and is giving no promo for her new album "Breathe In. Breathe Out." (on Amazon and iTunes), so this is truly her last shot at redemption. So please vote with love, and keep Hilary in the competition.
The judges would each vote on who they wanted, it was not a cohesive vote.
Speezy- Hilary
Umich- Brandon
As the deciding vote I considered both flops very much but I've ultimately decided that the flop that deserves to come back is....Brandon! Sorry Hilary
