Collide isn't bad
I love Beating Heart but Love Me Like You Do is my favorite Ellie soundtrack now
Heroes and Under Control
OOTW and Up
Blank Space, AATB, Style, Wrecking Ball, LA Love and On My Way
Welp, this song actually had a chance to be a hit if Hilary had released it BEFORE Chasing the Sun. That song clearly killed all hype she had, except in Australia. Well, this song is catchy and kind of edgy, but the music video wasn't
Final appearance of Hilary Duff
9. Selena Gomez - The Heart Wants What It Wants
Selena's final single with Hollywood Records comes in at #9. This has to be Selena's most genuine song, because now I understand why she constantly goes back to Justin, even though we all know he's trash. It's a really good song that anyone can relate to as well
Only appearance by Selena Gomez
8. Tinashe f. Schoolboy Q - 2 On
This song was definitely a sleeper hit with me. When I first listened to it in January, I wasn't too into it. I gave it a second chance in June and I got hooked. Tinashe's voice is just so sultry and perfect that it works well with the urban flavor this song has. It's crazy to think I discovered her through an acne commercial on TeenNick a year before 2 On and now I'm actually into her music.
Final appearances of Tinashe & Schoolboy Q
7. 5 Seconds of Summer - She Looks So Perfect
I decided to listen to these guys on a wimb, and I ended up really becoming addicted to this song. The guitar riffs plus the pop catchiness just really sold me. It's a good thing 1D is losing steam, because 5SOS at least can play pop rock, which by far is better than the indie pop 1D is trying to do. This song was a Spring 2014 staple for me and I'm glad I discovered these guys
Final appearance of 5 Seconds of Summer
6. Calvin Harris - Summer
Calvin is a really smart businessman. He released this song in Spring so that it would have enough time to build up on radio so that it would smash in the season it is named after. For me, this was definitely my summer song. The breakdown makes you feel good and the song is just made to make you feel happy and ready to have fun. It's so far been my favorite single from the era.
Final appearance of Calvin Harris
5. Iggy Azalea f. Rita Ora - Black Widow
For awhile, I played this song a lot more than I did Fancy, but even so, I still had to place it lower on the list. Fancy will have longetivity in my likability of it. Black Widow is a fast burner, plus it made me afraid of that type of spider appearing in my room at night . Regardless, this song is killer and fierce and Katy's chorus writing definitely worked here. I think it's possible that the lyrics to this may have been leftovers from Dark Horse, but you never know. I hope Rita can get at least one more hit in the US.
Final appearance of Rita Ora
4. Iggy Azalea f. Charli XCX - Fancy
The song that started Iggy's rise to stardom comes in at #4. The rapping parts and Charli's chorus are easily memorable and get stuck in your head quite easily. I might not have played it as much, but it was the fact that it still sounded fresh in October, November, and December is why it ranked higher than Black Widow for me. And the music video is cool too!
Final appearances of Iggy Azalea & Charlie XCX
3. Samantha Jade - Sweet Talk
My Australia pop princess comes in at #3, her highest ranking on my Year-End chart. This song proves that everything Ariana Grande can do, Samantha Jade can do much better. She's prettier than Kylie and sings better than Ariana and I just love this song so much. REALLY saved the year for me, but so did all the other songs in the Top 3. Anyways, ATRL has really latched onto this song lately so I hope it becomes an international hit in 2015
Final appearance of Samantha Jade
2. The Veronicas - You Ruin Me
I waited 5 years for new music from these girls. Lolita was ok but it didn't keep my interest long enough. This song however, just blew me away. It's just so painfully beautiful and both of the girls vocals shine on this track. To me, it is on par with their song In Another Life and it's also THE best ballad of 2014. Forget Sam Smith, forget that stupid Ed Sheeran track, forget the Shakira, Mariah, Ariana an other ballad songs released this year. They don't hold a single candle to this track. And these girls can outsing ALL of them
Final appearance of The Veronicas
1. Katy Perry f. Juicy J - Dark Horse
The best single off of PRISM and the best song of the year. I love when Katy releases a dark song. This song was her darkest song since E.T. and the best quality single off of PRISM for sure. It's in a completely different league to Roar, Uncondtionally, Birthday and This Is How We Do. It gives Katy an evil side and the beat of this song gets stuck in your head. And the chorus is just so anthemic. It literally was the perfect storm and still is, and that is why it's my favorite song of 2014
And with that, my 2014 best of list comes to a close, but I still have my mid-decade countdown to do. I've extended it from 50 to 100, and some positions have changed. But I hope you liked my Top 10 everyone and stay tuned for the mid-decade countdown.
