I was looking back at the Billboard issue when Britney had her own million debut, and even then one of the big articles was "Is the Future in Subscription? Conference Considers Models For Selling Music Online, On Demand." At the time, what happened instead to revitalize the industry was iTunes, but now we're back to that point 14 years later. I seem to remember reading in Steve Jobs about how badly handled streaming services were at the time which gave Apple the opportunity to take over.
She better enjoy this era because you can only make pop music work for so many eras. This is her absolute peak, in 2+ years she's not going to sell 1.286M again (it might be close but won't surpass that, more than that and you enter Britney territory).
One must question how long her career will effectively last.
I don't mind her taking her music down, but she has to understand that she won't be America's favorite forever.
