2/3rd of the review is about the album. stop looking for excuses. she can't do jazz. she can only scream. and if I read it correctly the WSJ editor was in contact with her and did an interview with her, so obviously he won't give it a bad review.
On songs like the Cole Porter standard "Anything Goes" and the title track, Gaga sounds like what she thinks a jazz singer should sound like; her performances are blatantly affected, marred by shouting and clichéd phrasing. She DISPLAYS a total dearth of the vocal precision and enunciation that made her so-called idols the masters they were; her timbre on eden ahbez's "Nature Boy," for instance, is wildly inconsistent, shifting from soft and almost pleasant to parodic and comical, often within just a few short bars.
Bennett doesn't fare a whole lot better, his otherwise charming performances strained throughout. The pair's solo efforts, particularly Gaga's clumsy interpretation of Billy Strayhorn's "Lush Life" and Bennett's surprisingly pitchy rendition of Duke Ellington's "Sophisticated Lady," only serve to spotlight their shortcomings. The 87-year-old Bennett, who's managed to stretch his career into not just a second, but third act, obviously deserves some slack, but for a singer who isn't even 30, Gaga's voice is shockingly rough-hewn, especially on "I Can't Give You Anything But Love" and "I Won't Dance." Even when all that's required of her is cheeky, spoken repartee on "Goody Goody," her persistent vocal fry is insufferable. If not for the session musicians' top-notch work, including Joe Lacorno's virtuosic tenor sax solos, much of Cheek to Cheek, which drags at an economical 45 minutes, would sound like glorified karaoke.

It's the oldest trick in the book: Past-prime pop singer attempts to boost his or her relevance in the face of dwindling sales and hastily changing trends by commissioning the help of a hotter, more bankable artist. Tony Bennett and Lady Gaga's Cheek to Cheek is the latest product of such a collaboration—except I'm not referring to the octogenarian Bennett, who, after 60-plus years in the business, is selling more albums than ever before, but to Gaga, whose free-fall from the upper echelons of pop has been as precipitous as her rise was meteoric.

Despite her claims that she grew up listening to the jazz greats, Gaga comes off more as a dilettante than an aficionado on Cheek to Cheek, a collection of duets with the seasoned Bennett. (Between Madonna, Bowie, Motley Crue, and now Ella and Billie, it's hard to keep track of just how many posters adorned her bedroom walls as a child.) On songs like the Cole Porter standard "Anything Goes" and the title track, Gaga sounds like what she thinks a jazz singer should sound like; her performances are blatantly affected, marred by shouting and clichéd phrasing. *60% actually and LOL at this leap.
Her duet in 2011 with Tony was acclaimed - please, don't as a Madonna stan, come for Lady Gaga's vocals.

I won't go fishing for her other Gaga posts, I'll just trust your word but it was ruthless not funny.
The posts made by a few little monsters predicting a great metacritic score, one even had a 98 ![toofunny3](http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v232/korn0818/ATRL_Smilies_All/faces/toofunny3_zps08814413.gif) , now those are funny.

The author clearly doesn't like Gaga or anything related to her. It probably disliked C2C way before it heard the album. A very ATRL experience that review was.

The fact that you're back in quoting more sections of the same review with the same type of comments... what sort of messy obsession.

There's not a semblance of positivity in any of that review. Why even give them two stars?
And it's a shame they even brought up Gaga's career plummet like that. Obviously they are assuming Gaga's love for jazz isn't genuine. Which is totally presumptuous... she's not just saying she likes jazz. She recorded and released a jazz album with Tony Bennett. It's like their totally negating her ability to walk the walk...

The Slant review is ruthless.
"Gaga sounds like what she thinks a jazz singer should sound like; her performances are blatantly affected, marred by shouting and clichéd phrasing."
I haven't heard it yet but I can already see it. I do think her NYC, Broadway influenced upbringings makes her seem more dramatic sounding than she means to be. I loved that sort of flair on Gypsy. That's where she feels the most comfortable.

People acting like this is ruthless must not read very many reviews. The article is less than 400 words and contains the same babble you see here on ATRL. Then again, I guess when you spend all your time on ATRL, ATRL-esque ruthless is all you know.
