HBO is a paid for subscription service. MTV is not. It's not really a shocker that the VMAs doubled their ratings.

No. He's right. Adele was having a HUGE era (peep the Grammy ratings). Gaga was having a big era. And Britney wasn't a vegetable quiTe yet. Then Beyoncé came thru with the pregnancy announcement.

The combination of all those factors drove the ratings through the roof.
We can't really know who brought "x amount of viewers".

God does not punish those who shade Gaga lightly. A 20% decline is harsh. That's what they get for at least not giving a Best Pop video nom for Applause. They should have given something to Britney too considering she made the show for awhile. The folks want to see blonde global girls, MTV.
