His last few albums haven't even charted outside US and Canada, nice try though. Noone in the UK even knows of his existence.

That's just the thing he is a country boy. He lives a simple life with his wife on their farm when they are not performing. He wouldn't want to be any bigger than he is. He has stated he loves his life very much. He does The Voice and then tours in the summer. He is rich and very happy. Not everyone needs to be WW to feel as if they have won in life, and I'm quite sure there are individuals WW who know who he is.

So he was just name dropping an Icon for no reason? I don't think so, he had a motive and that was for it to be talked about (promo), he can go back to his farm and talk to his wife about how bad shakira is a lip syncing.

No, because she is performing down the street from the awards show they were hosting and the tagline was "LIVE MUSIC". That is why he said "If you don't want to hear live singing go down the street to Britney Spears". They were in Vegas (her show is there, and the fact that she is lipsynching has been on the news), and that is a joke that has been used to death for years.
