Looking at the bigger picture though:
The Fame + Monster = probably the biggest era for a pop girl in recent years. Amazing album sales + Huge, huge singles + Youtube views. No questions. Hands down, this was Gaga's era to win. Although OOTB wasn't a joke too as it ushered two singles selling over 4M each.
Born this way was seen as a disappointment for Gaga. It was caught in some major backlash, including Madonna's "reductive" comment. Its first single debuted big, and stayed on the charts for a long time, but let's be real here it was front-loaded. The single sold well but all of the first 4 singles of Teenage dream outsold it. The viewership of Katy also swelled up. The era easily established Katy as a multimedia artist. The album lasted almost 2 years, overlapping with Adele's 21, Gaga's short-lived BTW, and 2 Rihanna albums.
And, of course PRISM where we are now.
always clinging to the old receipts. At least Britney Stan's have come to terms with BJ flopping and now I don't see them freaking out over it like Gaga fans still are.
