DEMI LOVATO - "Don't Forget"
70 points
Number of Voters: 3
Highest Voter: Mr. Duff (#4)
Album : Don't Forget (2008)
Track No: 6
Genre: Glam rock
Writer: Demi Lovato, Joe Jonas, Kevin Jonas II, Nick Jonas
Producer: John Fields, Jonas Brothers
Quote:

The song was well-received from music critics. Ed Masley of The Arizona Republic included "Don't Forget" on his "Top 10 from the Disney girls" list at number two, and wrote, "She really sells this epic glam-rock ballad with her choked-up vocals, [...] She wrote it with the Jonas Brothers, one of whom has clearly been enjoying Green Day's latest work. But truthfully, this would have been among the more compelling anthems on '21st Century Breakdown'." Judy Coleman of The Boston Globe wrote, "Lovato has already mastered the limited range of skills required of today's pop starlets: the vulnerable-kitten verse, the banshee-shriek chorus, the stiffly sexy whispered asides. She rhymes “we used to be so strong” and “our love is like a song” without irony." Michael Menachem of Billboard wrote that Lovato, like Miley Cyrus before her, "has also stepped away briefly from the tween sound with her album's title track, 'Don't Forget'. Menachem wrote, "She may be reaching a new level with a poised vocal performance, as she too is looking to be taken seriously." Joey Guerra of The Houston Chronicle called the track an "age-appropriate blueprint laid out by Hilary Duff and [Miley] Cyrus"

I don't think it sounds anything like glam rock. It's straightforward pop-rock like Pink, Kelly Clarkson and the Disney girls were all doing at that time.

WHITNEY HOUSTON - "I Look to You"
70 points
Number of Voters: 2
Highest Voter: alfonso12 (#1)
Album : I Look to You (2009)
Track No: 4
Genre: Gospel
Writer: R. Kelly
Producer: C. "Tricky" Stewart, Jarvey Mason, Jr, Emanuel Kiriakou
Quote:
Houston says that the powerful piano ballad that sums up the album and is all she wants to say at this stage of her life. From the album parties Rolling Stone said that with the two tracks from R. Kelly (the chippy kiss-off "Salute" and the steely title track produced by Tricky Stewart, Emanuel Kiriakou and Harvey Mason, Jr.) Houston seems to be aiming for a younger audience and the radio. Showbiz411's Richard Freidman called R. Kelly's contributions "excellent tracks, including the beautiful title song". Billboard magazine's Mark Surtherland wrote "The overall feel of the album was notably contemporary, while retaining Houston's trademark vocal flourishes. Clive Davis praised Houston by saying that on songs like "I Look to You" it is not difficult to say she is 'the premium balladeer of our time'.
Billboard's Monica Herrera gave the song a positive review, writing that Houston is "both vulnerable and in control". She adds that "the minimalist production, which features a lone, sullen piano and soft synths, exists purely to cushion Houston's moving vocal performance". Lastly, she stated that it "stands firmly in the tradition of her most emotive hits ("Greatest Love of All," "I Will Always Love You") and signals the long-awaited return of a true diva".

THE STROKES - "Is This It"
72 points
Number of Voters: 4
Highest Voter: Stevie (#8)
Album : Is This It (2001)
Track No: 1
Genre: Indie rock, garage rock
Writer: Julian Casablancas
Producer: Gordon Raphael

The song is a definite highlight. It starts out with what sounds like the sound effect when you lose a video game. Light guitars come in over a simple beat from Fab Moretti and singing from Casablancas. A decent opener, the listener thinks, when suddenly this wonderfully catchy bass-line comes in and pulls everything together.
