What this is, is the product of vocal lessons and voice preservation, she would have been coached to have a pop friendly voice. I don't think it means they weren't letting her sing in her own voice, this is the voice that made her famous, she was never going to be a Christina so they turned her into an emotive force early on and then her voice turned to a sexy purr. it was to set her apart. This is excellent proof that Ms Spears can actually sing, I think she is trying to oversing a bit but she is on key, in tune and has a lovely tone.
Excuse me for my poor choice of words, you're right about the part where I said she isn't allowed to sing in her real voice. She definitely could have used it whenever she wanted. What I meant before is that Jive didn't want those type of vocals on her records, they just wanted a more pop like sound like you said. Yeah she kind of over sang some parts in those old videos, but it at least shows the range is there even though it's not needed of her. I'm kinda of starting to think her over singing as a child was another reason for her voice weakening. You know how damaging oversinging is you know, Xtina is a good example of that. But I really wish Brit stuck to her real voice, she has a lovely tone. I was happy when I heard Everyday from her, it showed me she still has it.

I'm pretty sure what damaged her voice is the breathy/nasally way Jive made her sing. Singing in any way that's not how you naturally sound is damaging. Oversinging, doing too many runs etc. won't harm anyone as long as you sing properly.
Anyway, The Grammys have always been wary about pop music (probably more so in the past than as of late). There's always this sense that pop music is artificial, that there's no real "artistry" behind it. It's music that's made to sell. Plus on first impressions, it does have this sugary/dancey/manufactured sound. All of this would have made many reluctant to vote for Britney.
Britney is snubbed because the content and the lyrics to her music are .... Britney and Rihanna's albums mainly lack a real message for the public.Blackout & Rated R were well produced but the lyrics(Sex,Paparazzi,guns,..) werent what the grammys was looking for.
There is no surprise to see Beyonce with her female anthems or Gaga & Aguilera with their gays anthems being somewhat more respected.
Many pop singers forget that music is more than just the beat.
Ah, but the hole in the plot of your argument is an artist named Katy Perry, who if I’m not mistaken, snagged an AOTY grammy nod, and no, not because the content and lyrics of her music were so profound. I would posit that Rated R didn’t get nominated in the big categories because of its mediocre sales in the US, which the grammys aren’t here for that if you’re a major commercial artist like Rihanna, especially not when the Academy had two other artist to choose from in that category whose albums (in Gaga’s case) and singles (in Katy’s case) did make a huge impact in 2009. This is why I think that the chances of Beyonce getting an AOTY nod for 4 this year are slim .
And I’m going to have agree with those who are suggesting that the competition that an artist faces has a lot to do with why Britney doesn’t have more Grammys. Apparently last year WAS one of those really competitive years because even TRAIN was shut out of the Record and Song of the year categories, and Hey Soul Sister was huge!
I mean, even Chuck E. Cheese was stanning for Train.
A combination of things: Submissions & Grammy's aren't checking for Brit & that's been proven, I always wanted Blackout to garner a Best Pop Album nod but didn't happen.
Everything she puts out is contrived. None of it requires anything from her other than her going to the studio, reading the lyrics into a microphone then calling it a day.
Why? She's written PLENTY of songs, she's proven that she can sing, maybe not so much now, but she could, she could dance her ass off, she's helped produce her albums, she's directed her own videos.
Yet you people wanna act like she's never lifted a finger in her whole career.
You all should learn to be grateful. It's Thanksgiving. Be THANKFUL that she at least has ONE. More talented and respected legends in the industry are still without recognition.
It's funny to me that the people in here screeching the loudest about Britney not being a talented enough artist and her music being too contrived for the Grammys are Rihanna stans. The irony is simply delicious. Which one of you would like to explain to me what makes our girls so different?

Because her music is artificial. You dont get a sense that she has talent when listening to her music, and it tends to be over-produced and her voice too animated.
