Her career has floundered post-Bennifer, so you're excused if you forget that she was once one of the biggest stars on Earth. In the span of four years, the artist formerly known as J. Lo scored eight top 10 hits on the Billboard Hot 100, half of which went to #1, and sold almost ten million albums in the US -- not to mention her A-List Hollywood status after becoming the first Latina actress to earn seven figures for a movie role. (Oh, and that ass!) Her truest stans have stuck with her through her boring marriage to Marc Anthony, the dreadful Como ama una mujer and (shudder) "Louboutins." But she's poised for a major comeback in 2011 with her new role as a judge on "American Idol."
Essential track: "Waiting for Tonight" was techno perfection and "Jenny from the Block" entered the cultural zeitgeist (arguably for all the wrong reasons). But the Murder Remix of "I'm Real" with Ja Rule gave her a street credibility that took her career to another level.
Thanks for watching Episode 7: #40-31 of The 100 Most Essential Artists of ATRL! Rewatch it from the beginning here or check out the entire countdown thus far, and then come back tomorrow for part 8.
As usual, I'd love to hear what you all thought of this latest set of artists. Should Fergie and Nelly Furtado have been represented higher on the countdown? Are you glad that BSB won the Battle of the Boy Bands? And do you disagree with any of my essential tracks picks? Let me know!
The newest real-life princess in the Disney kingdom. Aside from starring on tween sensation "Wizards of Waverly Place," she has established a surprisingly successful recording career with her band, The Scene. And unlike the recent personal troubles of Miley and Demi, Selena Gomez has kept her nose clean, endearing her to fans even more. "Her pretty face reflects her amazing personality," says -mUsIcLoVeR-. "I'm proud of her being the youngest UNICEF ambassador."

"He sings uplifting songs that sometimes become inspirational to others."
I just can't... Thanks for including my thoughts too.
Apart from a brief period at the start of the 2000s, mainstream success in the American market has mostly eluded Kylie Minogue. Yet her delectable dance-pop creations have still won her many fans among club-goers, the gay community and, of course, ATRLers (who never met a fabulous diva they didn't love.)
Essential track: "Can't Get You Out of My Head," which was stuck in all of ours throughout 2002
