The first of three #1 club hits from Bare—thanks to remixes like the one by Goldtrix—"Pavement Cracks" is an alternately sorrowful and hopeful midtempo song about moving on at the end of a relationship. Awarded only three scores below 7, it also finishes as the highest-ranking track on this countdown not to receive any 10's.
Annie first ventured away from the Eurythmics for this duet with R&B legend Al Green, which served as the soundtrack to the closing credits of Bill Murray's A Christmas Carol update Scrooged. A soulful cover of Jackie DeShannon's 1968 pop standard, it would become Annie's only top ten hit as a solo artist.
Gwen's final solo single (thus far) presents a crumbling relationship in majestic fashion, favoring a glamorous, gorgeous sound of sadness over gritty authenticity. Though it was not an official U.S. single, it did serve as the soundtrack to Gwen's 2008 HP television commercials. It also becomes the first song on this countdown to score at least five 10's.
