October 31st - November 6th, 2008
After securing a ticket to their upcoming Toronto show in January '09,
The Killers get a last minute boost to steal the #1 position away from the still strong, and bullet driven
Britney Spears.
Human is the Las Vegas natives 7th career #1 single on the chart, their first being
Mr. Brightside which hit #1 in 2005 for a terrific 6 weeks.
Katy Perry and
Kings Of Leon move into the mid-rungs of the top 5, but the likelihood of them shaking up that top 2 is very low. Who could potentially break up the 1-2 punch? Well newly top 10
Ne Yo is probably the next biggest gainer and most legitimate contender.
Outside the top 10, it's all about
T.I.,
Paramore, and
Kanye West - who see some brisk movement this week. How phenomenal is
Decode by the way? Hayley's vocals on that track are unbelievable. And can you believe the likes of
Keane, and
All American Rejects? Both previous chart main-stays and consistent hit makers, and are both struggling to make the top 10 and even top 20 in the case of AAR.
A slower week in the debut department, but we have one marquee entry in the form of
Beyonce with the majestic and soaring
If I Were A Boy. She hit #1 twice (solo) with singles off her debut album, but since then, her best showing has been a #6 peak with
Irreplaceable. This song has the potential to have some longevity. And following in the footsteps of M.I.A., who prematurely charted and peaked at #18, only to have a roaring second chart life and come back to hit #1 the second time around,
Rihanna re-enters with
Rehab. This has always been one of my favorite singles off "Good Girl Gone Bad", but it had a dissapointing chart run previously peaking at (pure coincidence) #18. Let's see where it ends up this time around.
RECOMMENDED SONG OF THE WEEK:
Duffy - Rain On Your Parade
