The answers to my questions may pique your interest, as it did me when I heard influences of all the aforementioned intertwined in this "throwback" single. Even if you don't understand the era, or even particularly like it, the very fact Bruno Mars is singing it should leave you intrigued.
All I can vouch for is, after hearing this, I no longer doubt his versatility, as his massive talent is undeniable (as is his awfully feminine face)  . He deserves much more exposure, even if this track is not telling enough to the masses. We shouldn't stereotype him as "that guy" who sets unrealistic expectations for women — I mean would you really catch a grenade for her?
Regardless, this is a special pick. This song has a "groovy" feel, and a slow pace, all surmounting to a catchy chorus.
"Moonshine, take us to the stars tonight
Take us to that special place
That place we went the last time, the last time."
While the lyrics appear to mask a sexual undertone, it still can be left up to the listener for interpretation. Not to be minimized, the art of just how he exacts and verbalizes his feelings is still compelling. A key characteristic of Bruno's music is the extent of passionate love he describes and promotes. His old flame, Rita Ora really downgraded to Rob Kardashian, huh? Yeah, we all would trade charming, talented, and sensitive for an ignorant, partying nomad — hmm. I digress. 
What I do assure you readers is this is a song with a sound you would not expect to hear. It is wise beyond its years, or at least, sounds beyond the times. And those of you who are die-hard MJ fans, by no means am I saying they are equivalent — but, if it it hasn't struck you before, their sounds are oddly parallel.
Bruno Mars will be releasing "Unorthodox Jukebox" on Dec. 11, 2012. Having offered up a sample taste to fans, "Moonshine" leaves the rest of us hungry for more.
