Nothing gaga said in this interview makes any sense, it seems she's just mad that other "metaphoric" inspirational songs were bigger than BTW

Do you know what "carbon copy" means? There is absolutely nothing similar about BTW and EU except for a few, minor beats. Christina's beautiful is nothing but a classier version of Firework. Call back when they have the balls to include an actual LGBT line in their songs. BTW is different from Firework, Beautiful, Raise Your Glass, etc. simply because it's direct and to the point and doesn't beat around the bush.
I think it's hilarious that we're even debating this. People who deny her presence, power, and influence are beyond delusional.

Neil McCormick of The Daily Telegraph noted that the imitative nature of the song would affect perceptions of Gaga's artistry, since "Born This Way" was "[basically] a reworking of Madonna's 'Express Yourself' with a touch of 'Vogue', which is a bit too much Madonna for someone who is trying to establish her own identity as the, er, new Madonna.

Sis Katy Perry covered Born This Way in her concert, I'm sure gaga wouldn't hug her after calling Firework "Stupid"

as the great and wise Jessie J said “Of course Gaga is incredible but she’s set the bar so high for everyone else,” she revealed. “She’s literally made normal artists and music ‘boring’ which really bothers me.
If you do not agree with this statement, you have not been here for the past 3 years, Gaga pretty much made every bitch in the game step up to the plate and try and compete. The ones who have been the most innovative have taken other route ie Beyonce Adele to draw contrast

Wasn't this interview from months ago? And Christina didn't even write that song, she just sang it (Katy should be familiar with that) and there's a hell of a lot more lyrics than the chorus. Born This Way was #1 for 6 weeks and topped the charts in over 25 countries. You mad?

Just like Gaga said, people call her arrogant because she's woman, and if she was a man, she'd be considered confident and secure. She creates her music from scratch and she takes it seriously. She knows what she does is good and she's not afraid to admit it. No one seems to have this big of a problem with Kanye West.
|
I have absolutely no problem with people making such statements about themselves as long as they can back it up.

Born This Way is very much so Avant-Garde
Quote:
Avant-garde (French pronunciation: [avɑ̃ɡaʁd]) means "advance guard" or "vanguard".[1] The adjective form is used in English to refer to people or works that are experimental or innovative, particularly with respect to art, culture, and politics.
Avant-garde represents a pushing of the boundaries of what is accepted as the norm or the status quo, primarily in the cultural realm. The notion of the existence of the avant-garde is considered by some to be a hallmark of modernism, as distinct from postmodernism.
|
Quote:
The concept of avant-garde refers exclusively to marginalised artists, writers, composers and thinkers whose work is not only opposed to mainstream commercial values, but often has an abrasive social or political edge
|
The lyrics in Born The Way are very literal, very Avant-garde, it goes against the mainstream type music. You have very metaphorical driven "acceptance anthems". Born This Way breaks aways from the metaphorical driven anthems. She is basically telling you, take a seat, get a bowl, serve yourself cereal and eat it. As apposed to using some metaphor on how to do all of that. Get it?

She is addressing problems in todays society on mainstream radio. I don't need to quote lyric after lyric for you to see this do I? "Transgender" "Gay, Bi, or lesbian life"

I think it's kinda hard to be avant-garde with pop music, which basic means whatever music is popular at the time. It's not really a genre because it doesn't really have a specific sound. It's simply an artist putting out music they think will appeal to the main target, which is youth.

Oh right, the Britney stan, Rob Sheffield. He also thought Britney's Telephone was better, which kind of reveals his level of sanity.

None of her videos compared to this (and none of her songs, by the way...), but yes, I think there's something on Gwen's videography that is different.
If you ignore **** like 4 in The Morning, obviously...

These threads never go anywhere but pages deep. I see the same points being brought up over and over again.

I dont know if she really means "avant-garde" but I think I get what she's saying. After she announced the title of the album, pop artists started embracing being "freaks" or "unique." We R Who We R, Firework, and Raise Your Glass/****in Perfect come to mind.
I believe that she said something to that effect during a concert once (not specifically calling out the other girls). Regardless, her biggest impact on music has been her videos. She can be solely credited for bringing back a dying art form. Do you guys remember how boring music videos were getting before GaGa hit the scene? Now everyone is bringing their A games. I love it

I don't think it's so much that her music is avant garde as is her entire image.
We should all thank Gaga 'cause we would still be getting short videos that follow the song.
