The signs were there, it seemed like Mariah was finally ready to make a (third) comeback. She had the song, the hype was there and she blew it! She needs to come to terms with her age, her target audience and her status before it's too late.
The Band Perry "Better Dig Two"
Seems like The Band Perry enjoys giving us creepy song titles. Sadly this one failed to match the heart-warming "If I Die Young". "Better Dig Two" is far from being a sweet romantic tune but it has a storming production and a strong attitude that goes well with it.
Christina Aguilera feat. Blake Shelton "Just a Fool"
Speaking of missed opportunities Christina can speak volumes. I still can't get over the fact that "You Lost Me" was wasted like that and yet again she screwed a great song like this. Obviously it was meant to ride on the success of The Voice but it's just so good...
Kodaline "Love Like This"
Love-hate relationships always give us great songs. As the final appearance of this irish band I present this song which was one of the biggest growers of the year for me. I'll be looking forward for their next record.
Alanis Morissette "Receive"
Alanis might be "irrelevant" to top 40 radio since 2002 but in my personal opinion she has one of the most respectable and flawless discographies out there. "Receive" got me at first listen. I don't enjoy self empowerment songs that much but this one is very powerful to ignore.
Hunter Hayes "I Want Crazy"
I'm in a constant change of mind about this song. First I loved it then I got bored of it, later the video made me love it again and then I forgot it until I recently picked it back up. Truth be told Hunter has a big future in the country scene and he really deserves it.
Taylor Swift "22"
Ladies and gentlemen I give you the song that irreversibly tanked the whole "Red" era. It's so frustrating cause that era could have been huge in terms of singles. If only her team had waited a couple of months... Oh well, I was 22 myself when this song came out, call it a guilty pleasure.
HAIM "Don't Save Me"
These ladies are giving me life with their retro-influenced sound, it's unexpectedly infectious and so easy to get into. This was the very first song that I heard from them and it's still one my personal favorites.
Carrie Underwood "Two Black Cadillacs"
I didn't think Carrie could ever pull off a song like this. I get a bittersweet feeling from it. It's one of those songs that hit you like a truck at first but get old way too fast after you digest their deep storyline. She nailed it with the video though.
Zedd feat. Hayley Williams "Stay The Night"
I'm not mad at Hayley for experimenting with new sounds and genres. She has openly stated Paramore is not to be taken as a "rock" band and to be quite honest she does a good job with her collabs. I'm not the biggest fan of EDM music but Zedd is giving us quality music.
