53. You've Got the Dirtee Love

I do not like this or the original. It annoys me when it closes out Lungs.
I mean, in Blinding, she is saying "no more dreaming of the dead as if death itself is undone", and then here,
she says "you've got the love". I just don't get it.

I didn't want to get into how this is so much BETTER than her solo version it's not even funny.

Next is a "collaboration" between two of the most unique voices the UK's produced in the past fifteen years.

Paws off of Rabbit Heart. It is my favorite song here. It better make the top 10.
It is about her fear of the music industry.
But for my own purposes, I interpret it as a break-up song.
Saying "and in the spring I shed my skin", and "how quickly the glamor fades" make me think that.

Actually, I think her solo version is amazing (maybe my favorite song in this rate?). But Dizzee Rascal definitely adds something completely different and equally awesome. That's what a good mash-up should do.

Rebirth makes sense, especially with the lyrics and the fact it is at the beginning of the album.
But rebirth of what? Not her virginity.

Mutya Buena - B-Boy Baby (featuring Amy Winehouse)

Here's the story behind the most random track here. Sometime in the making of Back to Black, Amy and Salaam Remi set out to write a song that sampled the classic Be My Baby, by the Ronnettes (and produced by the one and only Phil Spector). The track wasn't completed, for whatever reason.

Fast forward to late 2006/spring 2007. Mutya Buena, fresh from leaving the Sugababes - the pop group she co-founded - was making her heavily anticipated and long awaited debut album. Somehow her A&R got a hold of this track, and the song was finished. Amy signed off on the use of her vocals in the chorus, and voila! B-Boy Baby was ready for the world.

The world was not ready for it, however, as it charted at #73. It did reach number one on Greece's iTunes chart though!! Success for the real girl.

They also never performed it together, as Amy was beyond performing at the time.

I love to interpret music but the death part makes no sense. Death doesn't come into play until the near end of the album. She is not leaving the world, she is entering it. Entering a relationship purely.

I'm going off the shedding skin lyric, and the video which reminds of the poem I linked up there. She could have died and been reborn at the beginning of the album.

"B-Boy Baby" is cute. It took me a couple of listens to get into, but I love that interpolation. It's also got a nice throwback vibe without being so obvious like some of these songs.

Shedding your skin does mean rebirth. Starting fresh.
When did she die at the beginning, though? Dog Days Are Over kind of speaks for itself.
