While it may be true that black people had to endure more as a whole, I don't really see how that's relevant in this argument. Ultimately gay hate is just as hurtful and destructive as black hate regardless of anything so...

Yes, gays are still being tortured and hated against, but the media is actually taking an interest in it by publicizing gay suicides in order to show how serious gay bashing has become and how it can affect people's lives.

People are becoming more active in gay rights, hell, in a way it's basically the Civil Rights movement all over again. Although hate is indeed hate there is a clear difference in hate against someone because of their skin color and then hate against someone because of their sexual orientation. People weren't enslaved, forced to work in fields, or sold like a piece of meat based on sexual orientation. Now moving on, you act as if gay bashing gets overlooked all the time and no one seems to fight against it unlike racism toward blacks, which is entirely untrue in this day and age. This thread is a perfect example. Blogs & News sources are already causing such a huge fuss over the homophobic comments made by Chris.

The funny thing is being a bisexual man myself I don't see any problem with what Chris said. You're making a huge deal out of nothing.

So are you telling me you CAN'T see the difference in how much homophobia is tolerated vs. racism? I already acknowledged that there is a gay rights movement, but IN GENERAL gay bashing is still MUCH MORE ACCEPTED than black bashing. Barring some redneck hick towns, you cannot get away with throwing the N word around on the regular. However, you can make "***" part of your regular vocabulary and most of the time no one will fight you about it or even look at you funny. THAT is the point. If the difference isn't glaringly obvious to you, then I don't even know what to tell you.

In a way they are similar, but at the end of the day Racism is on a much broader scale. Who cares which is accepted more by society's standards these days?

People are standing against hate for both groups.

The same thing you're saying about gay bashing right now can be said about black bashing during earlier times. Now look where we are. In time it will pass and gays will be generally accepted like blacks are, and there will be another problem in the future that'll be compared to gay bashing. It's a never ending cycle, but as long as there are good spirited people justice will prevail.
