The lowdown: Every pop girl has them: those songs beloved by hardcore fans and touted as their greatest work, in spite of all logic to the contrary. Enter “Legendary Lovers,” Prism's highest-ranking album track in this rate. Sure, it feels like something fresh and exciting in the midst of the Amy Grant reboot that is the rest of the record. But when the novelty wears off, will its vaguely Indian beat and string of pseudo-spiritual lyrical stereotypes be anything other than embarrassingly cheesy?
ATRL says...: Everyone was drinking the curry Kool-Aid. "'I feel my Lotus bloom,' Katy utters on this best song of Prism," August wrote. "Rise up, Katy, rise, this is the beginning of my short lived excitement for this album!" AriNikoBradshaw thought it "deserved the 'Dark Horse' video. The breakdown is amazing, the guitar is amazing, hell, this song is just overall amazing." helloDer argued, "This is what Katy should sound like." Dark Miracles "would've given it a 10, but so far its burn rate is quite high which is uncharacteristic for Prism." lovesong liked "the Indian influence everyone is using lately. Definitely could be a contender for a single. The lyrics, as per usual, are a mess, though. What is this 'third-eye' nonsense?" Even JakeKills enjoyed "Legendary Lovers," though he couldn't "get past the trifecta of 'blood orange sun' (it's ****ing red), 'I feel my lotus bloom' and the conflicting references to both the sun and the moon. Does it take John all day to get it up?"
Best bit: whatever fake exotic instrument kicks in at the chorus (is that a guitar masquerading as a sitar?)
