Joanne is her aunt, her fathers sister, who died at the age of 19. Pretty sure the story behind her death is that she was raped which caused her lupus to flare up. She died before Gaga was even born
Gaga's middle name is also Joanne.
Joanne has inspired many aspects of Gaga's career all the way back to The Fame days where Gaga included a poem she wrote in her album booklet. Gaga has said she is one of the most important figures in her life and that the stories she was told about her aunt inspired her to even have a music career.
