I wouldn't say that. They're very different. I think the first season played less on the overlap between inanity and extreme depression (in the context of the show) than this one, which makes it less accessible.

I mostly found the last season less accessible because so many of the plotlines revolved around the GR, which I found mostly uncompelling and too deliberately weird. The plots this time feel a lot stronger and more focused, although I still don't particularly care about what Tommy's up to. Hopefully we don't get a full episode about him and Liv Tyler.
