Can't really speak for Kpop stars but in many Asian communities there is still a preference for fairer skin. I'm not sure if its based on colonial history (which would be very tragic) or if its a perceived class thing. I've had personal experience with that in my own life. Not necessarily in my immediate family, but among other people who love to make comments about the fairness of skin (trés awkward for me since i'm kind of on the fair side).
It's really sad and unfortunate, bleh.
