A mistake? There is more than one way to contract HIV.
Every guy I know with HIV got it a different way.
Guy 1: His boyfriend cheated on him and infected him.
Guy 2: A hookup turned relationship where the guy didn't tell him
Guy 3: Attacked in a bar fight by a druggie and years later had HIV
Guy 4: Drugged and raped by some guy while on vacation, didn't know for 5 years
I know several more guys. The point is it's not always a mistake or something they've done. You can be a victim of it just like scabies or head lice or credit fraud. But it's not even something you need to take medication for. That's mostly for people who are high risk, like if you were raped or if a condom broke on your one night stand.
If you're with a guy and he takes care of himself, exercise-diet-stress management-medication his viral load can be zero and you can have sex without a condom, basically. An HIV+ guy who cares for his life and health is going to be so on top of taking care of it that he's like a gold mine. Do you know how many HIV- men take that much care to stay negative? Few. Startlingly few.
Love who will love you back. See the beauty in people.
