October 3rd - October 9th, 2008
It was a 3-horse race for #1 this week, but
Lady GaGa slipped up in these last few days letting
M.I.A. score some time at the penthouse. This is quite a feat for
Paper Planes considering it peaked at #18 earlier this year when it first charted, following it's proper U.K. release. She shouldn't get too comfortable as UK-natives
Oasis are barging up the chart and shouldn't have trouble hitting the top with their new CD hitting shelves next week.
Jordin Sparks is turning out to be one of the most successful American Idol's ever on the chart, registering her second top 5 hit after "No Air" and "Tattoo" peaked at #3 and #8 respectively.
The latter portion of the top 10 is extremely congested, as well as outside of it in the early teens. Who looks to emerge? Most likely it will be
Kenny Chesney,
Kings of Leon,
Katy Perry, and
Kevin Rudolf who could hit the top 5 - while the others, including
Leona Lewis, may have some trouble.
Kanye West musters a 4-spot rise after his monstrous #18 debut last week, which was fueled by some serious intense hype. Let's see how far he can ride this auto-tuned pony. Completely opposite are
The Killers, who have only gotten stronger come the second week and zoom up 7 spots.
It's been a good few weeks for marquee debuts, and this week is certainly no substitute as
Britney Spears marks her return to the chart with a huge #17 bow. She scored two #1's off "Blackout" last year, and is looking to do the same with her first single off the upcoming "Circus". Fellow musketeer
Christina Aguilera is back and will hopefully be met with better than the modest chart returns her previous album gave her, as she peaked with "Aint No Other Man", "Hurt", and "Candyman", at #11, #4, and #7 respectively. Speaking of last album drought,
Fall Out Boy has been there done that after "This Aint A Scene" peaked at #2 and the remaining of the album's singles failed to crack the top 15. Their newest should fare better.
