We’re already in the top 10, let’s reveal the next first part of the top 10.
Highlights of the album, as always, are bolded. The best tracks on the albums are in
red.
10. Fiona Apple – The Idler Wheel…
Score:
93.00/100
Every Single Night – The opening track of the album is actually its lead single, which was an amazing choice. It really sets the tone for the whole album and shows Fiona at her best –
10
Daredevil – Another great track. The only thing I don’t like is Fiona’s vocals in the bridge of the song. The production is a little bit messy, too –
9
Valentine – I love the lyrics of this song so much. And the hook is amazing –
10
Jonathan – If I’m not mistaken, I think this song was about Fiona’s ex-boyfriend. It’s actually the weakest song on the whole album. It’s too long and the production could have been much better –
8
Left Alone – I just adore the drums in this song. They give it some exotic and tribal sound that is absolutely gorgeous. At some places, Fiona’s vocals sounds so out of place, and that’s why it’s not worthy of a 10 –
9.5
Werewolf – This is definitely the best song on the album. I love how relaxed it sounds at the first few seconds and then gradually starts to build up for the chorus, and then the same thing happens with the 2nd verse. The song is just the definition of flawlessness –
10
Periphery – Fiona’s vocals in this song are amazing. I don’t really like the lyrics, though. They sound kind of repetitive and tired. Nevertheless, it’s a great song –
9
Regret – Another Fiona that is too long. The end of it is so boring. I adore Fiona’s vocals here – they sound so different from the other songs –
9
Anything We Want – I really like the production of this song at all. With a little more relaxed, and laid-back production the song would’ve been flawless –
9
Hot Knife – The song is amazing, it was actually my favorite song when I first listened to this album. The only thing that stops me from giving it a 10 is the harmonies. The song would’ve been much better without them –
9.5
_______________________
After being absent from the music industry for around seven years, Fiona came back stronger than ever with her fourth studio album “The Idler Wheel Is Wiser Than the Driver of the Screw and Whipping Cords Will Serve You More Than Ropes Will Ever Do”. The album is a masterpiece and definitely deserved some more commercial success.
9. Olly Murs – Right Place Right Time
Score:
94.17/100
Army of Two – The album opener, which is the second single from the album, is actually the best song on the album. I adore Olly’s attitude in this song, it’s so fierce. His vocals are so amazing, especially in the pre-chorus. The song is just another proof that UK music, in general, is much better than US music –
10
Troublemaker (feat. Flo Rida) – This song, which was actually the lead single of the album, is such a grower for me. I hated it so much when I first heard it. But as the time passed, I started to like it more and more, and now I totally adore. The only thing I hate about it is Flo Rida’s verse, the song would’ve been so much better without it –
9.5
Loud and Clear – The album really goes a little bit more down tempo with this song. It’s another amazing song from Olly. The only thing I don’t like here are the oh, oh, oh’s, they sound so out of place –
9
Dear Darlin' – This song is such a beautiful ballad. It kind of reminds me of the third single of Olly’s second album – Oh My Goodness –
9.5
Right Place Right Time – I don’t know why but the melody and the intro of the song remind me of Kylie’s Can’t Get You Out of My Head. The chorus is so heavenly. The verses are a little weak, and that’s why the song ain’t getting a 10 from me –
9.5
Hand on Heart – Olly really loves singing about hearts, doesn’t he? We had Heart on My Sleeve on his first album, Heart Skips a Beat on his second, and now we have Hand on Heart on his latest. Every 1 out of these 3 are amazing, including this song –
9.5
Hey You Beautiful – To be quite honest, this song actually kind of sounds like a One Direction rip-off but with one big difference. Olly can sing, has real talent and looks great, unlike those 5 ugly, talentless, undeveloped gays. The song actually sounds pretty great –
9
Head to Toe – This song actually sounds like it was taken from his first album. It just has the classic Olly vibe –
9.5
Personal – I absolutely adore this song. Olly’s flawless delivery is pure fire, and combined with the production and the amazing lyrics, we got a masterpiece. Olly sounds so special in here, it’s almost like rapping –
10
What a Buzz – Another great track by Ollie. I’m not really a fan of the lyrics here. They could’ve been a little bit better –
9
Cry Your Heart Out – When I first saw the track list of the album, I thought that this song would be some heart-breaking ballad but it turned out it’s not. The song is actually a very cute mid-tempo bop –
9.5
One of These Days – This album closer is actually a great ballad, in which Olly shows some amazing and powerful vocals. The lyrical content of the song, tho, is quite boring –
9
_______________________
I had absolutely no expectations for this album after hearing the first single. I thought Olly really regressed as an artist. But I was proven wrong. The album is really a masterpiece, and it's his best. Heart Skips a Beat remains his best song but that's another question. I love how he kept his own style and yet the album was very different from his two previous albums.
8. Loreen – Heal
Score:
94.58/100
In My Head – The album opener is a really amazing ballad with some very well executed dance influences, we even have some slight dance breakdowns –
9.5
My Heart Is Refusing Me – The second track of the album, also its second single, is a really amazing trance song with some great lyrics. Loreen really proves that even house songs can have very deep lyrics –
9
Everytime – This song actually sounds to me like a lessor version of Euphoria but it’s still amazing –
9
Euphoria – I was never interested in Eurovision (because my country always flops there), and I listened to this song after it won. At that time I hated it. But it has been growing on me during the past few months, and now I can definitely say that it’s one of the best songs released this year –
10
Crying Out Your Name – Another great song from Loreen. Amazing single choice -
9
Do We Even Matter – With this song the tempo of the album starts to be slower. But even in this ballad, we have some dance influences, and probably that’s why the song song sounds so original –
9.5
Sidewalk – Another amazing song. Her vocals sound so heavenly here, and the beat is great with the pinch of dubstep. –
9.5
Sober – Another amazing song with some heavenly vocals –
9.5
If She's the One – This song is so flawless. Such an amazing ballad. The lyrics and the vocals **** so hard on my soul –
10
Breaking Robot – This song is the closest thing to filler. It’s still a great song, tho. I really hate the auto-tuned vocals –
9
See You Again – Another amazing song. I love the lyrics –
9.5
Heal (feat. Blanks) – I adore this song. It sounds so relaxing, yet not boring. The production is probably the best on the album –
10
_______________________
Loreen and her effortless slayage was probably one of the biggest suprises of 2012. I've never thought that I will listen to some Eurovision contestant but Loreen just came and blew my mind away. Heal is such an amazing album. And it's even more amazing having in mind that it is her debut album and she's been in the industry for less than an year. I hope in the future she will make more masterpieces like Heal.
7. Melanie Fiona – The MF Life
Score:
95/100
This Time (feat. J. Cole) – The first track of the album is one of the best tracks on it. Everything about is amazing, even the J. Cole verse –
10
4 AM – This song is probably the best R&B song of 2012. I just love the raw emotion, the flawless vocals and delivery and the amazing lyrics. This song is an example that Rico Love can still produce a masterpiece, even after 2009 –
10
Break Down These Walls – And we have another flawless song here. The vocal performance is so strong and powerful. Melanie serves us some real R&B here –
10
I Been That Girl – Another great song. Not really a fan of the lyrics, though –
9
Wrong Side Of A Love Song – Another amazing song by Melanie. The vocals on some places are not very good and could've been better –
9
Running (feat. Nas) – I’m not really feeling Nas’s verse in this song to be honest. Other than that, the song is great –
9
Change The Record (feat. B.o.B) – I love how in this song Melanie goes uptempo. The song has so much energy and the production is amazing. Even the B.o.B.’s verse is great –
10
Gone & Never Coming Back – After a flawless uptempo, the album slows down with this amazing ballad –
9.5
Bones – This track is kind of creepy to me. Basically, Melanie needs to give her bones and inner organs. Excluding that fact, it’s a great track with flawless vocals –
9
Watch Me Work – Another amazing uptempo. The hook is gorgeous –
9.5
Can't Say I Never Loved You – Another great song. The lyrics are
9.5
L.O.V.E. (feat. John Legend) – Such a flawless song. John Legend and Melanie’s voices pass so good to each other, it’s almost unbelievable. They should do more songs together –
10
6 AM (feat. T-Pain) – The song is the continuation of the best song on the album 4 AM but unfortunately 6 AM can’t top 4 AM. And the fact that T-Pain is featured makes it even worse. Are we in 2007? –
9
_______________________
I was so hyped for this album ever since 2009 when I heard Give It to Me Right for the first time. Then, of course, I took my time and listened to her debut album but I was deeply disappointed by it and back then I really hoped that her second album will be much better. And guess what? - my wish came true. I really love how this album sounds so amazing. It has so many flawless R&B gems. Melanie did a really great job with it.
6. Cheryl – A Million Lights
Score:
95.91/100
Under The Sun – The second single of the album is actually one of the weakest songs on the album. I love the retro feel in both the song and video but the songs just lacks depth and personality –
9
Call My Name – The lead single of the album is so amazing. Despite being written and produced by Calvin Harris, it doesn't sound generic at all. The lyrics and that beat are pure fire. Cheryl's delivery is very special, too –
10
Craziest Things (feat. will.i.am) – A collaboration with will.i.am is essential for every solo Chery album and her third album is not an exception. This time we got the dubstep flavored Craziest Things. It can't top the masterpiece that was 3 Words but it's still an amazing song –
9
Girl in the Mirror – Another dubstep flavored track comes next. It's slightly R&B inspired and it's a great bop –
9.5
A Million Lights – The next song is one incredible ballad that has some indie sound. I really wish Cheryl had some better vocal abilities, so that she can the song properly –
9
Screw You (feat. Wretch 32) – The next track is actually the one of the two best tracks on the album. It starts like a ballad but it turns out to be an urban *****-popping anthem. Everything about is flawless, even the rap verse from the irrelevant guy –
10
Love Killer – This song is actually the best dubstep flavored song on the whole album. There's something special about Cheryl's delivery that makes it so special and unique –
10
Ghetto Baby – The next track is written by Lana Del Rey. Cheryl really takes Lana's material to a next level. In fact, this song is better than any Lana song. Lana should really just be a songwriter. Another thing I like about it is the heavy urban beat. It's so gorgeous –
10
All Is Fair – I just adore this song. It sounds so flawless. One of the best song Cheryl ever recorded in her career. It's o perfect. The lyrics are so deep. The melody and the production are so well-done. And Cheryl's delivery is just out of this world. Her best vocals in her career so far are on this masterpiece –
10
_______________________
With A Million Lights Cheryl really delivered a very solid and cohesive album - something that I never expected from her. The whole is just a masterpiece. I love how she matured as an artist. Her vocals are so much better. It hurts me so much that this album is her least successful. And I hate the fact that Screw You was not released as a 3rd single. But at least we got an amazing Gods Aloud reunion that was worth the wait. Oh, and actually A Million Lights is better than any Girls Aloud album (excluding compilations), including the album efforts from Flopcola and Nadine.
That's all for today, guys. More coming tomorrow.
