1. has/had huge promo, albums with promo like this usually sell 1 mil first week
2. had one of the biggest and most promoted eras in the past decade (according to ha stans)
3. is the biggest pop girl (according to ha stans once again).

The gold truck was basically a moving billboard hyping and promoting her album all over huge metropolitan cities of America.

I'm not sure. BTW was plastered on every cab, metro and whatnot in NYC when it was released and did 644k if we don't count that preposterous 99c deal. So looks like not every album usually sells 1M first week with huge promo.

But it wont. Back in August, ARTPOP was slaughtering Prism in pre-orders. And yes, pre-orders aren't always a good indicator for first week sales HOWEVER look back at Born This Way and Teenage Dream.

Born This Way WW: 7 million
Teenage Dream: 6 million

Born This Way US: 2.2 million
Teenage Dream: 2.8 million

Gaga was able to sell more than Katy worldwide and nearly the same amount in the US. Gaga has the album-selling power that Katy doesn't. Katy was bigger in the US because she had bigger hits but Teenage Dream only outsold BTW there by like 600,000 copies.

ARTPOP isn't doing Born This Way's first week numbers but it's not going to pull low numbers this time around either.

Capitol and Katy obviously want this to have great longetivity instead of it opening hugely and having horrible longetivity and that is very clever of them.

I still think these are great - or at least acceptable - numbers for a "singles artist".
